Hi. I was wondering- Should we be tipping the golf cart person who guides you to your camping spot?

If so, how much to tip?

Absolutely. We always tip. Usually $5.

Thanks for asking that, I hadn't thought of that though we normally tip. I always considered it part of the cost of the site. I don't have any problem tipping, but I guess I would expect something more than just showing me to the site and then taking off. For example, we just arrived at a campground and the "guide" placed our vehicle way to close to the utilities so the slide couldn't extend. I explained this to him and he just left. We had to reposition the TT, but then they objected because our steps were on the grass. Hmmmm....maybe they should make the sites a bit wider. We only have one slideout.

Never have, never will. Prefer just to get a map and find it myself. Don't like someone standing behind my trailer trying to tell me which way to turn the steering wheel. My wife can always do a better job using our 2-way radios.

Last summer I watched a golf cart guy back a brand new 5th wheel into a wooden post that he didn't notice on the opposite side of the trailer. Put a good sized crack in the fiberglass. Got back on his cart and drove away.....

I had never thought of it. I guess if he or she goes over and above in service I would. In my experience’s they either drive by the spot and point or drive threw it with a very fast stop. That’s not over and above in my book.

I've only ran into this once, at a KOA in Utah. Once registered, you had to stop at a sign and wait for someone in a UTV to guide you to your site. Once at the site, he pointed a finger "there's your site." No help with backing in, but wasn't needed. I said thanks, and that was it. Tip want you want, but the sites were well marked and a guide really wasn't needed.
At $84 bucks a night I'm not going to tip. That was a pricey campground and we left the next day.

Side story, as I mentioned above, I tip the escort to the site as well as anyone who delivers firewood, food, propane, etc. We frequent one particular campground many times a year and I keep up this tipping pattern there.

By the end of the summer, we end up with lots of "perks" from the campground staff......bundles of firewood just magically show up, kids get free ice cream when they go in the store, I even got a sweatshirt and the girls got t-shirts the last weekend we were there in the fall.

Do I tip expecting anything in return....no. But, you definitely can tell that the staff notices it and it is obviously appreciated.

I used to do that at our favorite casino. Tipped the Cocktail Girl $5.00 for the first two free drinks. She brought fresh ones on her every subsequent pass through the casino without me even asking.

Can't remember where I was or if I won or lost...or how I got back to the RV...

It must be an east coast thing. It would never occur to me not to tip the folks at the rv camps! A lot of times, if the camps are family owned and operated the staff will not accept a tip from the guests. I understand that completely. It has never stopped me from trying though. As midnightmoon stated, wood, propane, food, you get a tip. And if you won’t take cash, have a burger or a hot dog! It doesn’t matter how much the rate of the camp is, it’s just part of the trip. That small gesture of good will can make your experience, and someone else’s day a whole lot better. Think about that cocktail waitress getting $5 from 200 guests a day at the casino. I bet her life is pretty good…unless someone is screaming “get off my lawn.”

This falls into the non-applicable category for us as we almost exclusively stay in state and federal campgrounds. However, we frequent a country restaurant nearby and I go out of my way to be a good tipper there for all the same reasons @Midnightmoon mentioned. Nobody has ever picked up our tab, but our order is always right and the service is excellent.

At the campground the camp hosts, groundskeeping and maintenance folks are always welcome at our campsite for a cup of coffee or cold drink. We enjoy visiting and the goodwill is always good to have on your side.

It hasn't ever occurred to me to tip the golf cart escort, but it makes sense. Problem is that I seldom have cash on me as these days I never need it.

After a long day on the road it's helpful to me to be guided to my campsite, especially if it's a big campground. If the guide just points out my site and moves on. We'll ok see you later. If the guide helps me back in, explains the hook ups, none of which is necessary because I've done this many, many times then yes I will tip the person. Often he guide I tipped will stop by and talk, often giving us good local information of interesting things to do and places to see. Seems tipping is a two way street.

Tipping is for exemplary service above and beyond the norm like having to go back and get something we forgot or go get battery jump cables, etc.

The golf cart is a normally provided asset to prevent us from getting into the wrong site. It is for the benefit of the campsite owners. Tip if you like.

Realistically, it is totally up to you. I, personally, don’t think so, with the price of campgrounds today. This is what they offer and included with the price of what you are paying.

It depends!

In some campgrounds they won't help you at all. They are afraid of assuming any liability if you damage anything getting parked. Certainly no tip there. Yes I do tip if it's deserved.
