Tips of Newbie in rain???

Just picked up our x17a last night. Going to a local cg this weekend to try it out and the forecast isn't looking good. Wanted to see if anyone had some good tips for camping in the rain? We also have 2 goldens if anyone has any tips on camping with dogs in general and in rain? Thanks!!!

Only good thing about camping in the rain is that you and your spouse will get some extra snuggling time in . If its a warm rain then don't be scared to get a little wet and do some hiking or walking. Extra shoes is a must. Cards and reading material are always in our camper just in case of rain also.

If we think rain is in the forecast we will try and make the dinner meal more upscale since we find we will be cooking togehter inside. It gives us one more activity to do inside. Games we always have on hand is Uno, SkipBo, Mexican Train Dominoes, etc. Many times we love to sit under our awning during rain and just relax if it's not too bad. If the temp drops we love to grab some blankets too.

Regarding the dogs, they are both good sized and I'm assuming their hair length is moderate to long? Have lots of large dog towels to wipe them down and to wipe their paws after they walk. We camped for several years with a yorkie so it was doable for us to dry him off when he was in the grass, etc but we found we did have to bath him just before we took off and then when we returned to keep him fresh. I see several dog owners will have their dogs stay in the covered pick-up bed during the day with the gate down so they don't feel isolated.

Enjoy your new TT. We pick our new White Hawk 30DSRE up on Monday. No longer have the dog though....or the kids....lol.

Just thought of one more thing. Every campground always wants the dogs to be on some type of leash. Often, we would try to get a site that had 2 trees about 20 feet apart with no other obstructions around them. We would set up a dog run cable between the trees with line stops that did not allow the dog to wrap himself around a trees or any other plants, bushes, etc. He was very happy to be able to freely walk and explore and still like part of the family.

I brought a small pallet on one trip and it came in handy as a lake formed near our TT door after a downpour. I though about bringing a small shovel or pick axe to make drainage runs but the CG probably wouldn't like that. Also, try to put your awning away dry; a wet awning rolled up may start to mildew.

Any chance you can go without the pups? We had a hard time in our x17z with two people and 2 small dogs that weighed less then 30lbs combined.

Going without the pups on the first trip gives you one less thing to worry about when trying to figure things out.

Congratulations on your new 17A! We travel with one medium sized dog. For us we have a dog pillow she sleeps on. For us it typically is place, right under the rear bunk. For most part she is then out of the way.

We have a small cabinet that is dedicated to the dog, all food, treats, tie outs, drying off towels, everything is in this cabinet.

Not sure what the 17A has for a rear bumper, but on our HTT we have a square tube that stores the sewer hose, on the curbside I place a small kids plastic beach shovel in the bumper as a pooper scooper. Works quite well, much better than expected.

If you typically use electric sites especially as it cools off in the fall, pick up a small electric space heater. Ours is really small ceramic unit, with 2 speed fan, with two temperature elements options. During the day if we need it, it sites on the stove, at night we typically place it on the floor, in front of the stove. The gas furnace does keep the floor warmer though. Do not be surprised if the first time you fire up the furnace it stinks really badly for a ½ hour or more (this is normal to burn off manufacturing oils,etc).

Lastly do not store the trailer with the bunks wet, if you have to open it up and let it dry.

If it is raining on your first campout, it is a good time to read all the manuals, and become familiar with all the systems.

From experience. If you have the awning out make sure its pitched so it doesnt hold water. If you have to put the awning or tip outs away wet just open them back up when you get home so they can dry.
