Total NOOB ! New TT (x17z)

Picking up our brand new 2013 Jayco x17z from Owasco (Ontario, Canada) on Thursday. Migrating from Tent camping to a TT...kids lol.

I'm a complete newbie, so any advice welcome...particularly anything I should do right away (I recall reading somewhere about spraying water on the end tents..)

Best piece of advice .. git out there and enjoy it! When towing .. go slow. When backing .. go slow. When your spouse is acting as your spotter .. have patience!
I like to park, do a walk through of the site before I back in. Always looking up to see overhanging branches etc. Don't be afraid to boondock with no power/water - and have fun while you learn!

Picked up the same unit the last week of March from Owasco. 2 nights of driveway camping so far. One piece of advice, check to be sure both gray and black water dump valves are closed. Mine were not. A post I read here saved me some embarassment and cleanup at the first dumping station in the near future.

Welcome! My advise is read through the owners manual so you understand how to setup the camper and get started. Once you are camping, you can read through all the manuals. As for the tent ends, our 2007 232 EXP required us to set it up and spray the tent ends a couple times over a couple days. This initially swelled the threads and sealed it up. This was all explained in the owners manual. We never had a leaking tent end in 5 seasons.

Welcome aboard! Do read the manuals thoroughly. Place them in a folder of some type and leave them in the HTT, I have a divided folder and have a section for repairs done, receipts, etc. It does talk about seasoning the tent ends.

A few things to note;

- Drive slow, there is a speed rating of 65 mph on the trailer tires.
- Have good mirrors, you need to see what is happening behind you
- Have some kind of sway control on your hitch; this will help eliminate some white knuckle driving.
- After dumping the sewer tanks, add a few gallons of water to the black tank, I also add a 1/4 + cup of PineSol down the toilet.
- If you have not backed up a trailer before, find a large parking lot and give it a few tries. Also come up with some type of nonverbal communications while backing in. I also recommend if you cannot see your spotter(s) in the mirror; stop and wait for them to reappear, there is nothing worse than driving over someone who has tripped.
- You will find that the 17Z has a very low cargo weight capacity so watch what you are loading into it.
