Un-Winterizing...

Hi,

This is the first time that we've ever winterized, as the Travel Trailer didn't need it (just drained everything and left a heater going inside).

So, we're getting ready to "un-winterize" the motorhome, and here is the question...

What do you do with the "pink stuff" that drains out? Can it just be washed into the grass, or is it considered "hazardous waste". Do you have to collect it in a bucket and dispose of it somewhere safe? Could it harm the dogs?

So many questions...

If I won't drink it then I recycle it, I would rather keep it out of harms way. I never believe everything I read.

So, you're saying that it may actually be dangerous for pets? I've called several RV dealerships, and can't find anybody who will dispose of it.

RV antifreeze is not poisonous. That's why its in your fresh water pipes

My antifreeze gets washed into my tanks when I flush the lines. Then I empty my tanks into an approved waste tank. No worries.

Normally, we use the fresh water in our tanks to flush the antifreeze into the black and grey tanks, but it is not poisonous

I belive the pink antifreeze is bio degradable. Every boat owner i know lets it run down the driveway / yard. Green coolant is different because it runs thru a hot motor and has lubricants and heat protection. The pink is strictly just an anti freeze.

Mine just go into my tanks and when I go on my first trip I dump them. I do run a lot of water through the lines to clean them out. I don't drink the water the first trip out normally. But bathing and all other your just fine. And if you get a little run off on the drive way no biggie.

Anti freeze

the component of rv antifreeze is Propylene Glycol, food grade which is used in many flavoring and food applications and is safe for consumption. It doesn't taste particularly great but will not hurt you. It also contains some FD&C food grade dye to create that nice tint.

Automobile Anti freeze is generally Ethylene Glycol which is Toxic!
Never use this in your RV or dump it on the lawn or down the drains.

I actually have started winterizing my boat with rv antifreeze also. I figure most of the time they have lake water running through them with no lubricant and that way if there is some residual in the block when I drop it in the lake it wont hurt the fish... it is also much cheaper than regular antifreeze
