USB and STEREO

I have a 2017 Jayco Eagle HT Fifth Wheel. The USB PORT in the kitchen island fell apart, I purchased the replacement part - properly installed it, and have nothing. It’s directly above the outlet on the outer side of the island. None of the other USB ports work, either does the stereo. All fuses are ok. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a hidden fuse somewhere?

Thanks!
Tony

When the USB port fell apart, did the line with voltage (usually the red wire) short out with any other wires? If so, then that could have damaged the USB board on the stereo.

I would disconnect the newly installed USB port and see if the other USB ports start working again, it is possible one bad USB port could affect all or some of the others. ~CA

Hey thanks! No, it literally just fell apart in my hand when I unplugged the usb. The wires feeding it have zero power going to them. I tested the wires and am getting nothing. It’s pretty weird..

I haven't looked at a lot of USB cables and ports lately however, I have looked at quite a few over the many years. It is my understanding every stereo, computer, etc, that has a USB connection port should have +5 voltage at the edge pins. If you are not measuring any voltage then it could be that the USB port shorted out and damaged the board. If possible, I would disconnect all of the USB connections at the stereo and check for voltage there. If nothing, then I would open up the stereo and look for damaged components if you are comfortable doing that. ~CA

Just for clarity, when you stated None of the other USB ports work, either does the stereo., are you saying that the stereo works for audio out to the speakers, but that the USB port at the stereo doesn't work, or that the stereo isn't working at all? ~CA

The only issue with that, the stereo is glued with a tar substance to the the cabinet, the only way to get it out is to pretty much destroy the cabinet. I’m hoping to come across a fuse somewhere.

There may be a protection circuit built into the stereo. One thing to try is to remove all power to the stereo for a few minutes and then reconnect the power and see if that fixes the issue. In any case, there should be voltage present at the usb port and if not, then there could possibly still be a short or a damaged usb controller circuit (or as mentioned above that a protection circuit shut the usb port down, not that they all have protection circuits though).

I would also inspect both ends of the cable(s) if you can. ~CA

BTW, I have never seen a stereo that had a fuse specific for the USB ports. I have only seen such a fuse on a simple USB charging port that isn't connected to a stereo or anything else (only used for charging). However, it might be of value to check the stereo's user manual and see if perhaps there is one listed that is on the stereo as even though I haven't ever seen one, I suppose it is possible that there could be one. ~CA
