Vancouver BC... Here we come!

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the suggestions/recommendations. We actually think we have a full two day itinerary based on the posts from this thread.

We appreciate knowing where the safe/unsafe areas are also.

No gas worries as we are flying in and plan to use public transportation. I like that Capilano has a free shuttle also.

Thanks again everyone! :)

GOOD that you are not trying to import your earwigs to BC.. they have rules about that:D

Some banks or trust companies have evening & Saturday hours. They will give the best rate. Also, you may find in a large shopping mall, a store called "Travel Currency Exchange". They have same rates as the banks.

Search with this link;

The bank names to look for are;
TD Bank -- this one has the best hours of operation
Scotiabank
CIBC
BMO Bank of Montreal
National Bank
Royal Bank of Canada

Maybe one of these options will be on your route.

Look for a TD Canada Trust, they have the best hours and are open until at least 8.00 PM. Don't use the airport kiosks or you will pay through the nose.

I have not been to Vancouver in probably 20 plus years but it is know as one of the most expensive cities in the world, but they do have Macdonalds and of course our favourite Tim Hortons, so go in for a double double plus a donut. You can't go wrong.

As you know, TD Canada Trust and TD Bank Financial Group are one and the same. Hard to tell which name they want to be known by these days.

Thanks, that's helpful info :)

I have only one question. Is nambarc going with you?

You darn right me`s going. I`ll stow away if necessssarie.

GOOD that you are not trying to import your earwigs to BC.. they have rules about that:D

Would be great to see another nambarc travelogue.

nambarc hasn't begged yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if I find him somewhere in my luggage!

Seann, Somewhere, someone mentioned earwigs and nambarc nose picking... maybe stowing nambarc away might not be a good thing! I'd hate to be delayed by customs because of nose smuggled pincher bugs!!!

Me`s going, one way or amother.

You can come along, BUT, Seann may be onto something...Dig those earwigs outta your nose before you sneak into the backpack!

BTW... are you afraid of heights? We're definitely doing the Capilano Suspension Bridge! :)

(Thanks for the suggestion DrFife)

Me not afraid of nuttin. But me likes to travel first class. Dat means only First class seats, or in a Jayco.

Thanks for asking :)

We're back from Ak. The member suggestions/advice for this trip was extremely helpful! Thanks to all who posted! :)

As for Namby.... although camera shy on this trip, he did get to Vancouver where he especially loved the suspension bridge park; Ketchican; Juneau (weather changed right before the flight over the glacier to the iditerod dog camp, so our heli was canceled); and then took a train from Skagway up to the Yukon.

We also spent a little over a week at BIL's house in Anchorage and saw a lot of rain. We always have gone "south" to fish, but this time drove to north to Denali for a couple of days... where... we had... MORE rain LOL

We did see a mother bear and her cubs on the drive back from the Yukon. We had a smaller private tour so our guide was able to stop the van and we spent about 10 minutes taking lots of video's and pics (felt bad for those on the big bus who passed us but only spent about two minutes watching)....

Best part was seeing the Margerie Glacier.. it was quite active the hour we floated about 500 ft from it. Sounded like thunder as chunks of it cracked and fell into the water making some big waves! :)
