Hey tring to use the veepeak obd that came with our new 32 rlts.
I have the app (car scanner) but not sure im setting it up right. Would anyone be able to help get this setup. I can connect with the elm but it will not connect with ecu.

I believe it'll only connect to the ECU when the brake system is powered on, try to pull the emergency brake cable and leave it out for a minute or two and then try to reconnect to the bluetooth module. I believe the brake system goes to sleep after 15-30 mins of inactivity (e.g. no brake activity)

Is this the same veepeak scanner that's $20 on amazon? I haven't tried them all but I have several OBD2 scanners, none have required applying the brake.

What are you trying to connect to? When I google "jayco 32rlts" it comes up with pinnacle 5th wheel, which I assume isn't what you're working with. Keep in mind a generic scanner like that will probably only connect to automotive/light duty OBD2 compliant systems, usually 1 ton chassis and below.

It also looks like it's compatible with a few different apps, have you tried others?

Newer 5th wheels come with Dexter Tow Assist which has bluetooth capabilities so you can connect to the tow assist system using the Dexter app on your phone. This allows you to see the total mileage for the trailer, brake status, along with brake system faults if a magnet is bad, etc.

Elm only can see obdll sensors feeding the ICE ECU of the tow vehicle, some mfr specific codes in the CAN and ABS/Brake Assist computer. Dexter Tow Assist looks for the Dexter ECU...not the one in the tow vehicle. I can't imagine ELM working for your situation if it's a 5th wheel with a Dexter ECU.

here's the video on 'how to':
