Wanting to mount a hitch to my trailer for exterior cargo

I have a 2021 SLX 183RB Baja. I'm currently towing it with a '04 Ram 1500.

I'm hoping to downsize to a smaller truck over the summer, but I know that comes with complications to how I use my trailer.

Knowing that I'm most likely going to end up with a smaller truck bed than what I currently have, I want to put a hitch on the back of my trailer for a cargo platform. Specifically for my generator so i can free up space in my bed.

I'm not mechanically inclined, so I'm not making the modification myself.

I'm just wondering if anyone has a similar sized trailer that has done something like what I'm describing. What was your experience? Is it a good idea? Is it a really bad idea?

Appreciate the input

Check out Stromberg Carlson generator platform that goes on tongue instead of weight in the rear. Had one on my old camper and wish I could still use it. Very strong and easy to install.

I've read many horror stories of failures with heavier weights on the back. Have you researched what the weight limit is?

I had a 2" receiver hitch weld the the rear of my frame. Welder reinforced the attachment points to the frame. Works nice.
