Washington Coast, Oregon Coast & North CA Must See's

Ok, The fam and I are heading to the Washington Coast, Oregon Coast & North CA. I have been reading as much as I can our trip we are going to take this summer in our 32BHDS. We have never done the 101 route and would like to see as much as we can keeping the “coastal” theme. I am making a list of the must see’s for this trip and so far things are kinda slim outside of National Parks and a few cool beaches we want to see. List anything and everything you would recommend we see, eat, or places to setup the RV. Boondockng is ok.

With a rig that long you will want to do it N to S so you are on the outside of the turns... I am planing a similar trip this fall and that is what all those I know that have done the trip have told me...

It's been awhile sence I've been to Washington that way but when you get to California you will need to see the TREE'S OF MYSTERY. Also side track just off of highway 1/101 and drive the AVENUE OF THE GIANTS its a scenic drive through the red woods. Then if you are going through the city of Eureka then I would eat at the SAMOA COOkHOUSE. There is a koa in the Eureka area that we have stayed at.

And yes traveling from the north to south keeps you on the outside of the curves and also gives you a better view of the Pacific Ocean..... And you can check your tail lights as you maneuver the curves.... Good luck

I recently spent a week in Cannon Beach OR (we're from the Seattle Area). We stayed at a private park at the south end of CB, could walk into town. There is an nice beach, nice small town. We went down to Tillimook for the day to tour the cheese factory and there is a great air museum. Fort Klatsop was also neat, where Lewis & Clark stopped. We were on 101 from Astoria to Tillimook, was just fine.

Well you could try Cape Disappointment state park its on the north side of the Columbia River on Washington side out of Ilwaco, Wa. or in Oregon on South side of Columbia river just about 10 miles South of Astoria, Or. is Fort Stevens State park. they have miles of bike trails. And there parts of the old forts at each camp ground. there are a lot of camping spots in both states all along the coast with somthing different to see at each location. Havent been to a bad one yet

We have been to the Air Museum just out of Tillimook. Its an interesting place if you like old planes. Its also hard to miss, just look for the giant hanger with the words Air Museum on it.

hello yoteslare.. I like camping at Fort Stevens like old Blue said lots of bike trails you can tour the old fort drive down to the jetty . if you go in to Astoria you can go up to the Astoria Column it has a great view of the Columbia River not recommended if you don't like heights . Doogers in seaside has pretty good food and lots of shops there .If you like to shop for art and stuff Cannon Beach is great and it has a beautiful beach hit haystack rock on a low tide and go out and explore the tide pools .If it's a clear day go just north of cannon beach town to ecola state park what a view!! I would not recommend pulling my RV in there Its all paved but narrow.The tillamook cheese factory is fun lots of RV parking and a Habanero, and a cheddar cheese that is to die for. Beverly beach st.park is nice. there's a big casino in Lincoln city may have some kind of seafood buffet .Newport has the Oregon coast Aquarium it is kind of cool I hear jeesehonyman st.park is nice. So when you planning this great adventure. and good luck and have a great time

All good stuff that has been mentioned, Samoa Cookhouse is a must with a group, it is great food served family style and more if you want it. Fort stevens is a wonderful park, bring or rent bicycles lots of trails, look for the pillboxes and bring a flashlight for the old fort.
At Florence, Jessie Honeyman state park is similar plus you can get a dune buggy ride or rent quads to ride the sand dunes, also at the beach.
It is the top of ODNRA- Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area the area spans to Coos Bay. There is an off-road section at Florence then a section closed to OHV's, you be able to figure it out.
It is where there are no footprints or tracks,who is going to walk miles in the sand to the beach? Stupid but that is our US Forest Service providing for... who?
Next comes Salmon Harbor just south of Reedsport a really nice place for day-tripping and going on a fishing charter, has some very nice RV campgrounds. Also just around the corner is Winchester Bay the center OHV area partly controlled by the Forest Service but THANKFULLY the Douglas County community understands the importance of dollars spent by the OHV users that supports a great deal of the local economy.The County puts on Oregon's largest OHV event in August called DUNEFEST, I have volunteered as a Camp Host for several years. It is a family oriented event that has lots of appeal and is kid oriented, quad rentals are available there too.It has the largest dunes and is very scenic, no beach riding there.
Moving farther south is another area closed to OHV's, there are several campgrounds both State and private next to lakes in the vicinity.
about 8-10 miles south is the last area open to OHV and is the largest riding area it stretches from Spinreel to Hauser to Coos Bay. There is beach riding there too, and at Hauser is a KOA with a rental nearby.
Have fun in Oregon, you have to try real hard to not have any!

Hey we use to live near Deception Pass and camped there all the time...wow! Over twenty years now sinc we we been there. God's country. Dont miss it!
I suppose Lassen is too far inland but do visit the Redwoods while in northern calf. I just love those big ol trees...If you have a few minutes to kill here's some pics of the Redwoods we took a couple years ago.

Wow! Thanks all again. This is a ton of great info. We have not settled on a route yet but will soon. Great Video! I will adding those spots to the must see list. Keep it coming, I am printing out this forum so I can reference it against the map soon.

There are so many places to see and things to do that it would take a whole summer to do it all right. We like to park the trailer in an area for several days and then see everything within about 50 or 60 miles, then move and do it all over again. Have fun.

You will like it it is a very nice park the water is nice and close by. It can get a little noisy at times with the Naval base nearby, but I just look at it as a free airshow. It is one of our favourite places and close to home. We will be there this weekend coming up leaving Friday after work.
