Water overflow

Hello,
We are experiencing water overflow from the fresh water holding tanks when I open the city water connection. I thought when connected to city water it bypasses the holding tank but it doesn't I guess. I know the water overflow from the 2 tubes is for safety but is there a way I can stop this overflow? We are at a trailer park and would prefer to use direct city water and not the water pump.

Any suggestions please!

It would help to know what RV you have.

My first guess would be the water pump check valve is leaking backwards. If that is the case you can get a check valve and install it between the pump and the fresh water tank. This fix would be cheaper than replacing the pump.

Do you have a single connection point to fill the water tanks and operate off the city water line? If so my next guess would be to confirm the valves are fully configured to have the city water connection open and the tank fill valve closed. You may want to cycle the valves a few times. You may have a piece of construction debris stuck in ball valve and it is allowing water to leak past.

Seems like the check valve in the pump the first common problem. Know your plumbing layout or check online for an layout for your particular model. Or you can call or email Jayco. It is not common to have city water fill the FW tank unless it is a high end RV.

It should be located near / behind where you connect the water ose to fill your RV. You may have to remove a panel to gain access.

another vote for check valve, its usually integral to the pump but may have gunk in it

I have not seen the valve yet , nothing on exterior, going to check near the city water connection as someone suggested in this post that it might be behind some panel.

It's inside the pump, requires taking the pump apart. If you have a separate fill opening for the fresh water tanks you won't have a shut off valve

How do I get rid of gunk?

I have not seen the valve yet , nothing on exterior, going to check near the city water connection as someone suggested in this post that it might be behind some panel.

These campers don't have factory valves. (they are too cheap.) They rely instead on the check valve that is integral to the water pump to prevent city water from flowing into the FW tanks.

There is likely a clear screen fitting attached to the water pump. You most likely sucked up a single grain of dirt or other debris that clogged the check valve, and is preventing the valve to fully seal. You'd get what you are describing... eventually the FW tank will overflow.

Have you tried just running off the FW tank for a while? that flow may eventually dislodge the check valve.
