I have the opportunity to grab this 12v water pump for FREE. Since I've never had to replace one, to me it LOOKS to be like one I'd use in the camper. It'd be a good option for a back-up, is what I'm thinking, since it's coming at me NEW for FREE.

I always carry at least two spare pumps all the time, which has just accumulated over time. Of course the pump that you are showing is rated a lot more than most of the pumps that our mid size TTs use from the factory. I do this because I do remote camping a lot more than I do fancy campgrounds in populated areas. I also rarely use city type water hookups, even when I am at a campsite. Its just a habit that i got into by not trusting the crimped type fittings , even with pressure regulators. I don't want to have a leak and constantly flood the camper if i happen to not be inside and notice it.

But in my case its the head or even just the pressure switches that goes out, while the motors are just fine, as long as you have not let it run for hours and gotten them too hot. But its rare that this happens. But for most of the 3.0 and 3.5 gpm, the cost of buying parts to repair the heads and the cost for the entire unit is close to the same. the heads just unscrew and you install the new ones. There are some exceptions. But as long as your fittings are the same, by all means carrying an additional pump is like carrying a regular screw driver for me.

I camp at parks, but most often do not have city water hook-up. I fill the tank and always use the water pump. I did use city water hook-up a couple times and it made me nervous, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Filling the water tank and using the pump is no bother and leaves me feeling less nervous about abrupt leaks.

Thank you for your information. I had no idea the heads are replaceable. I thought once it's gone, no matter what fails, it's gone. Minus those threaded, add on pieces, parts.

There are some slight differences in some models heads of the same 3.0 and the 3.5 gpm rated pumps. But most of the time the square style pump heads all fit different pumps with a different name on the motor But the motors are not much different.

Shurflo is the well known name in both rhe rv and marine industry. But as usual similar styles can carry a different name. But normally the inlets and outlets will be the same and will fit your factory plumbing lines and connnections.
