WDH Weight Rating

I bought a new Jayco X18D, and I want to get a WDH set up. I'm towing with a 2008 F150 FX4 SuperCrew, 5.4L 3V. The trailer max weight is 4,600lbs.

After a ton of reading and research, I have deceived on a Reese Straight Line. What I can't decide on is should I get the 600lb or 800lb rated version? I figure the tongue weight will be 500-550 on average when loaded up. So, would the 600lb be just enough, and would the 800lb be over kill? I should mention that I'm sure I'll have crap in the back of the truck to; bikes, bbq, cooler, etc.

On the outside chance that your tongue weight could get to the 12 to 15% based on 4600 gross, the tongue weight could get up to 690 lbs.

Might go with the 800lb rated.

I tend to agree, the 800lb rated WDH would be desirable because I think it will be easy to slip over a 600lb loaded HTT tongue weight under certain loading conditions, and IMO the 800lb rated WDH wouldn't be an overkill under proper adjustment.

Check the yellow sticker on the side of the 2015 X18D for the actual "As Shipped" UVW, it will be heavier then the published 3,410lbs......., probably adding another 300lbs. At the end of the day the X18D loaded for family camping could easily come in at 4,400lbs (no fluids), so a 13% to 15% tongue weight range would be 572lbs to 660lbs.

If you decide to go with the 600lb rated WDH, a visit to the CAT scale may be desirable to confirm your loaded tongue weight doesn't exceed 600lbs, especially if you tow with any fluid in the HTT tanks.
