What do you pull and with what? Likes and dislikes, performance, etc. Any info to help others looking for towing information.

I have a 2016 Ram 2500 6.4 gas 3:73’s 6 speed transmission
I tow a 33RBTS travel trailer. Tongue weight varies but usually around 1300 lbs give it take. Total weight is around 10,500.

Truck does OK overall. Would really struggle in steep hill areas but fortunately I don’t venture into those areas. Does fine in flat highway but headwinds are also an issue.

What’s your set up?

Tow vehicle: 2020 F450 Limited

Towed vehicle: 2015 Pinnacle REQS (about 14,000 unloaded, GVWR about 16,000), electric drum brakes

Likes: pulls like the hand of god. It has no trouble at all accelerating hard uphill with the 5'er behind it. Very stable on the road, engine braking and tow/haul mode work really, really well (I rarely have to touch the brakes downhill), super-tight turning radius due to the wider front axle.

Dislikes: DEF. 4.30 gearing means fuel economy falls off rapidly over 65mph (but that's the limit when towing in most states anyway). Shiny truck appears to be a magnet for idiots in parking lots.

I bet that truck does tow well with 4:30 RAR. 👍

I used to tow a travel trailer (28BHBE) with almost your exact truck, and I had a similar experience. It did pretty good, but not great. I mean, I didn't have any real problems, just seemed like the truck was working pretty hard going up hills and into the wind. But then, that's what it was designed to do. I fully recognized it wasn't a diesel, and that if I needed power it was going to come from high in the RPM band.

I'm convinced that if I had held out and found one with a 4.10, it would have been better. In fact, I've mentioned it several times, that this was the only thing I regretted about that truck, I LOVED everything else about it.

I would absolutely pick up another one if I needed a truck. My cousin just bought one with the 4.10, so I'm curious to see how he does with his.

If I used it enough to justify it, I would get a Ram with the Cummins diesel. I have a couple friends who are diesel mechanics, and that's the one they've recommended for the last several years.

2022 Chevy 2500 High Country Dmax. Pulling a 2019 Eagle 321RSTS FW.

Really happy with this combo. I’ve towed this trailer with a 2016 2500, 2019 3500, and now this. This is the best combo so far. Really like the 10 speed trans and the ride this truck gives me towing. Only thing I don’t like is the mileage. With each Dmax my mileage has decreased a little. But, gotta pay to play I guess. It’s my daily as well, but I don’t have a job where I’m driving to the office everyday. If I did it may not be great for that.

The trailer we’ve really enjoyed as well. It’s had it’s issues, but it’s never been anything to interrupt a trip. It’s always kept us warm when the weather’s cold, dry when it’s wet, and cool in the heat. The layout has been great too with only one kiddo. If we had a litter we’d need something different.

Current combo is a 2019 Ford F-250 XLT w/6.2l, 6-speed and 4.30 gears towing a 2019 ORV 23DBS. The ORV usually weighs in ~8500 with full fresh water and ~1250 tongue weight so it is a bit tongue heavy. I use a Blue Ox Sway-Pro with the 1500lb bars.

I just installed a RoadActive Suspension on the F-250 and it made a significant improvement in the overall towing experience. Everything feels more solid and it eliminated the porpoising that would occur with less than ideal road conditions. It has also muted the jolting that you could feel through the rear end and steering wheel when the trailer ran over larger bumps. The empty ride was improved as well.

Power-wise the 6.2l does alright, even in the mountain passes. I can hold the speed limit in 4th gear at ~3800 rpm as well as accelerate if needed while running up the pass. The 6-speed is very smooth and with the 4.30 gears it will get up to speed pretty quick. I've been averaging between 8.5 and 9.5 for mpg over mixed terrain at around 62mph. For the weight I'm pulling there is more than enough power from the 6.2l.

I tow a 2022 33RBTS with my 2021 F350 7.3 gasser. I have absolutely no complaints about the power or performance of my truck. It handles the heavy weight of the trailer extremely well.

I do not care too much for the axle placement of the trailer though. I would like to see them moved forward somewhat. Its a long trailer at just under 39 feet and I feel the axles are just a bit too far rearward. Other than that I have no issues whatsoever with my setup.

Those are some big units!

I'm on the smaller size - 2020 Ford F150 Lariat SCrew with Max Tow pulling our 2018 212QB that usually weighs in around 5000# and tongue weight around 650-700 depending on what's in the passthrough (and thanks to 2 6V batteries on the tongue).

We did our first big trip from Ottawa through South Carolina this past spring and the truck pulled like a champion through the mountains and some bad headwinds (where the mileage sucked). I'm happy with the setup.

What's the rear end ratio in that truck? Just curious being it's a 1-ton.

Sounds like an awesome truck despite the "growing pains" of the 7.3 when it was introduced.

I tow a 2012 Eagle 320 RLDS that scales at 9250lbs with 1400lbs on the tongue. Tow vehicle is a 2017 F-250 with the 6.2L engine, 6R100 transmission and a 3.73 rear end. I put it tow/haul and let it do its thing. Averaging between 8.5 and 9.5 mpg and no complaints.

I tow a Jayfeather 18RBM which weighs 3975 fully loaded with a 2012 Tacoma V6 Prerunner. I have added CFR double core radiator, larger trans cooler with a Spal fan and Timbrens.

We've traveled all over California, a 4 week trip to Yellowstone and a 5 week tour of the Southwest.

Wished we had more power on long grades, outside of that I have no major complaints. The truck handles the trailer well using an Andersen hitch with no problems even in the Wyoming winds.

The rear is a 3.73 and she pulls like a champ. Hopefully most of those pains are gone. The one that worries me the most is the delamination of the rockers.

I have my own home shop and work as the Director of Maintenance and Operations for a transportation company with a fleet of 120 buses. I am anal about routine maintenance and repairs so hopefully she will live a long and useful life!

Tow Vehicle: 2017 Ford F150 Screw 2.7 EcoBoost 4WD Rear Gears: 3:73

Towing: Jayco 2015 20MRB

This truck is a damn near perfect match for this trailer of only 5900GVW. Yes, the engine does work a bit harder than if I had the 3.5 EcoBeast. I'm not sure I would want the truck if it had the 3:55 gears.

On a recent road trip without the trailer, averaged 23MPG, mostly freeway driving. The same trip with the trailer would have been around 10 to 11MPG.

Bought in 2021 with only 8600 miles on it. Now have just under 23,000 30 months later. Truck has most options including Off-Road Package Ford factory tow mirrors but no lane assistance and no navigation (duh). Color matching fiberglass canopy (topper) was added.

Bought the truck due to the exceptional price and low miles. I would rather have had a 2018 that would have given me the 10 speed tranny as opposed to the 6 speed.

Murff

Well, a lot of people will probably give me grief for how "old" my tow vehicle is:

2000 Dodge 2500 sport with a Cummins and almost new 5 speed and 410 rear end. Already have a Fass lift pump with the "draw straw" kit since this was one of the models that had the POS pump in the fuel tank.

I'm pulling a 2019 Jayco JayFeather 27RL.

LOL, the truck hardly knows it behind it.

You won’t get any grief from me kuddos on having a solid truck. Hard to find trucks that age still running strong.

Towing with a 2002 Ford Excursion 6.8litre, 3:73 gears, air bags. Towing a 2018 Jayco Jayfeather 27 Rl. 7000 lbs. Last trailer was a Jayco Jayflight 33rlds 9950 gross and truck handled it great.

01 f250 7.3ps 4 speed auto. Bilstein 5100 and powerstop brakes all around. Riff raff stainless injector cups and coolant filter, bitteroot injectors, and a donaldson air filter. Tuner alters converter lock up, feels like a 6 speed. 13.5 towing, 17.5 empty. You can almost hear the rust eating it away.
18 264bh gross weight 6k.
In the market for an alumaduty w/6.7 that isn't priced bat shat crazy.

2020 3500 Dmax with a 330RSTS. Tongue weight is around 1500 with the trailer at about 11k.

Added new shocks as the stocks are junk and recently bagged it. Between the WDH and the bags now, I feel really solid (as solid as you can feel pulling a 40' wind sail behind you).

Engine no complaints... 10 speed trans... no complaints, fuel milage is roughly 10mpg towing.

The truck is my daily still, but I work from home so not a big deal. The next setup will remain the same size all around, but most likely will be a fiver with a dually.

Towing a 2020 Pinnacle 36KPTS with a 2019 F-350 DRW w/6.7 PS and 3.55 gears. We have a 52 gallon auxiliary tank and the truck has a 48 gallon tank. With the Pinnacle fully loaded and both fuel tanks full we weigh in around 26,000 pounds combined. Have towed the rig to Grand Teton NP and just got back from Smoky Mountains NP and the truck did extremely well. Fuel economy on these trips ranged from mid 8's to low 9's depending on head winds. Very happy with our setup.

A '22 F-350 7.3L, 3.73's (3,997 lb payload) with a 22' Rockwood trailer (scaled at 5,500 lbs) and a 660 lb scaled tongue weight..
