What did you do to your Tow Vehicle today?

Painted the cap side windows. Now no one can look in through those windows and it’s a bit brighter inside.

Didn’t paint that. I’m debating myself about painting it also or adding more tint. Learned to drive with a 67Ford van with no rear windows so used the mirrors from day one. Blacking out the rear window would not be an issue for me.

Replaced the two batteries after they went belly up. As soon as the nights turned cool, they started getting weak. It seems three years is about as good as I get with my truck batteries. Diesels are hard on them and our blistering summers and limited short-hop driving between trips doesn’t help. Per advice of the Interstate dealer, I’ll probably try throwing the charger on them during long gaps between travels.

Replaced it with a 2024 F250 7.3 gas. This was actually not today but about a month ago. I’ve had a chance to pull our 33RBTS with it and I have ZERO complaints. The 7.3 is as advertised!

Oil and filter today. Been contemplating what to do with the Nissan since paint problems arose and Nissan nixed a fix. They DID offer $3,000 incentive to buy a new Titan ($55,000 and more), BUT...NADA on my 66K old 2018 Titan 2wd is only about $16,000. Add $3,000 from Nissan and we're only at $19,000. Let's see, $53,000 minus $19,000 is $34,000 add 8.5% tax ($2,890) registration, dealer fees and such ($775) AND THEN 3.9% on $37,665 (if I decided not to put any of my 'fixed income' into it), and I'm at $650/month...HARD NO. I'll paint it as it needs it, although the estimate from Nissan body shop is $9,256 to fix. Otherwise the truck is perfect, one of the best vehicles I've owned in my 55 years driving. A shame it's going to look like a GM...

This isn’t a knock on Nissan but when I was searching for my next truck I did look at the Nissan Titans XD briefly. I used the build new functions on both Ford (for the F250 I bought) and a Titan HD with as close as possible to the same features and the Titan was around $2700 more than a brand new F250 XLT with XLT premium package and 7.3 engine. All the auto makers are like this with half ton trucks though.

Added a pedal commander and a free flowing grille to my 2015 EcoDiesel. Now I can pull my travel trailer up mountain passes without the truck going into limp mode; as the stock grille louvers kept closing restricting airflow.

This weekend…. Found the limits of my front cap to bed rail clearance after 9k miles towing with this setup.

Hit the point of no return turning into a campground where the road went from level to 10 degrees nose down in a tight turn. Ate up my 6” and change pretty quick.

Then, much to my frustration, again as we left I turned into a pull off near the main gate just to double check bikes etc before hitting the road. Wasn’t even a bad incline. All these miles towing this trailer and this State Park an hour from home at my lunch.

In between all this I had leveling issues. System said all good, green level indication… not so much. Screen door jamming in the door frame, closet door that wouldn’t latch closed, drawers sliding out on their own and trailer just felt “off”. It was dark so didn’t see at first that a rear jack never found the ground. Remedied that and started over. Everything was good.

If you’re in the DFW area and go to Cleburne State Park, avoid the lake side FHU sites.

Used my solder workstation to fix the radio; there was no sound with the radio. The CD and satellite were fine. The 4th gen Ram's stock radio is prone to solder failures on one of the chip lead circuits to the board. A little heat on the solder and care with the pull apart and reinstallation did the trick.
