About The JOF Acronym List and what acronyms can be placed in it.
HISTORY:
Denise started this thread,
"What Do Those Letters Stand For (Acronyms)" back on 05-03-2011 to provide the meanings and/or definitions for the growing number of RV and camping acronyms. It's just as helpful today, maybe even more so, as it was then.
WHAT ACRONYMS ARE IN THE LIST?:
Besides those for RVing and camping, the list contains acronyms for electrical, automotive, telecommunications, plumbing, HVAC (Wow! that's an acronym all by itself), along with a few others. While they aren't RV and camping acronyms, they are included in the list for convenience because they relate to some of the topics discussed on the forums.
WHAT ABOUT ACRONYMS USED IN TEXT MESSAGING?:
SMS language (AKA Texting language, textspeak or "Textese") is a language all its own and are
not acronyms. They're considered to be abbreviations of English phrases and slang. There are a number of SMS language terms already in the JOF acronym list, but as of the date of this post, they will no longer be accepted. Searching on "sms language" using your favorite search engine will produce a number of websites to choose from that have SMS language dictionaries with the definitions of Texting language terms. For more information about SMS Language, click on this link to
Wikipedia- SMS language. Below the article, there is a list of SMS terms and definitions.
HOW DO I GET A NEW ACRONYM PLACED ON THE LIST?:
Simply submit a reply on this thread with the acronym(s) for consideration to be placed on the list. It may take a little time before it gets placed on the list since there may be no moderators logged on or your acronym requires discussion among the site team members. If, for whatever reason, your acronym is deemed unacceptable, we will place an explanation in your post as to why. Any posts submitted for acronyms that we determine to be inappropriate, vulgar or offensive will be deleted with no notification to the submitter (user). The decision of the Site Team is final.
Acronyms will be rejected if they are judged to be:
- Inappropriate
- Vulgar
- Offensive
- SMS language
