There's also a product that is like window tint but thicker and you attach it to the glass. It uses static cling and can be pulled of and reused many times. Also can get in different shades. Hope this helps.
 
I used the spring loaded curtain rod to hang my blackout curtains and pushed it up behind the valance. Then made a magnetic one for the door. Then we use the pillows in the skylights and fans. It is so dark you don't know if it's day or night

We also use the metallic window covers when campers in storage to keep the shades and curtains from fading and to keep the heat down in the trailer. We live in the dessert.
