Winterizing Residential Fridge

New 5th wheel (2018 Pinnacle 36 KPTS ) has a residential fridge with water and ice in the door. Have drained the lines and blown them out but nothing to the fridge. Any tips for winterizing this type of fridge.

There is detailed procedure in your owner's manual for winterizing your fridge or at least there is for my 2016 Pinnacle.

eharris205 Go on line and google 2016 Pinnacle owner's manual and look at page 125. This may be a later version of the 2016 Pinnacle owner's manual than you have. It gives detailed instructions on the residential fridge.

Thanks again. Unfortunately the fridge in my 2018 is a Whirlpool and the ice maker looks a little different than the Fridgadaire that is in the 2016. I did copy those pages and will see if the instructions can help with the Whirlpool in my unit.

I agree with the video. I believe it will work regardless of the brand. It is the method I've used for three years now on two different fivers. Works like a charm.

In our brochure winterizing the residential refrigerator was under Plumbing System. With the Frigidaire, you are not supposed to use antifreeze. Not sure about the Whirlpool as it is not listed on the book.

Marine71-76: Thank you. Unfortunately the owners manual for our 2018 is silent on winterizing the fridge. Just talked to Jayco customer service rep who provided some verbal direction/info for the Whirlpool. He stated he was aware that it wasn't in the owners manual.

I blow out the whole system first, then I focus on the ice maker. I push the small button under the ice maker unit to make a "forced" dump, until I can hear air coming thru the ice maker. This usually 6-8 times, while the air compressor is still hooked up to my waterlines. Once I can hear air coming thru, then I open the trash container drawer and turn off the water valve to the ice maker. Then I use anti freeze to complete my winterizing of the waterlines, but, not the ice maker water line. Hope this helps!

I know your post is three years old, but do you have a Whirlpool refrigerator? I'm trying to figure out how to get the icemaker in the whirlpool to cycle manually. I can easily blow out all the lines in the rv and the water dispenser of the fridge. But not the icemaker. Don't think I have a cycle button that you reference. Can you or anybody else help on this?????

Also silent on the 355MBQS. I understand about blowing out the water dispenser but not sure how to cycle the icemaker while the air compressor is connected.

Thanks but that doesn't help. That says to disconnect the water lines behind the refrigerator. Can't do that.

For the whirlpool, you don’t have any over ride to cycle the ice tray. On my last night of camping prior to winterizing, I shut the water off to the frig via the valve in my island. I then run the water dispenser until no water comes out. The ice tray will cycle out any remaining water. Even if some is still present it won’t matter as it is in the freezer and is designed to freeze. Once I get home I then blow the entire system out with 25 psi air as shown in the video.

I gotta make sure I get it right this year, lol. They're calling for a bad winter. Last year we only had a few nights below freezing.

I you are going to had a bad winter, you may want to do what joggerman listed. That will give your FW system good protection.

Pressurize you system with antifreeze and run it through the water dispenser and allow enough time under pressure to make pink cubes. This will be my 6th year doing this on a Whirlpool and never had a problem with temps at minus 15 a couple times.
