x17z bunk vinyl strip cracked. Replacement?

Hello everyone. I just bought this trailer used. It's 2013 model. And while camping in it for the first time, I noticed small crack in vinyl strip that is stitched to the canvas and attached to the trailer. Cracks are on both ends. I did some research, it's a common problem. What I'm looking for is that vinyl strip. Does anyone know where can I get only that piece? Or maybe part number for it? Thank you.

I turned that exact issue in for warranty service this spring, and they replaced the entire tent to replace that strip. So, I think it is attached to the tent.

I have a 2015 23XB and mine is in the shop right now. They are replacing to whole tent end. It is a bad design and the screws they put in lead to cracking in the plastic. It should be metal.

My wife and I just purchased a 2016 Jay Feather X17Z and we are glad we went for the extended warranty if this is a common issue!

Your correct they do have a 5 year warranty and we add 2 more years for a total of 7 years. We already have one tent end on its way due to leaking and that plastic strip that cracked in the photo just kept coming undone so they are replacing it.

I have had the same crack since day one. It never bothered me until this year, when it grew a little bit, and a little rain water came in. I removed the the screw in question, and added a small washer, maybe a #8. When I put it back together it is holding the plastic strip together very nicely, and the canvas is pulled back up.
 
I just did this exact thing this morning. Not only adding a washer to the top screw before the radius but also added a screw to the bottom of the radius. It's odd, the one side of the back bunk had the two screws, the other only one....good quality control.:(
 
My 2013 x17z has the same problem. It's almost as bad as yours on one bunk. The other bunk seal is just cracked, but clearly will get that bad at some point. Our state requires inspections once a year. Mine is due in September, and I'm going to get the dealer to look at the gap while it's there. I hope there actually is a five year warranty on bunk ends, because that would theoretically be covered by it. We bought an extended warranty from the dealer (stupid .. I know) and it should hopefully cover it with a $100 deductible.
 
Nothing stupid about extended warranty! It is like life insurance, you pay for it and hope you never use it. I have seen many people saved because of having warranty on vehicles. My wife and I picked up our new X17Z three weeks ago and I made sure I looked over the warranty paper work. The tents ends are 5 year, if you got the extended warranty as we did, they are covered for 7 years!

My experience with extended dealer warranties is that they're not worth the paper they're written on. The dealer will do everything in its power to not pay out, despite the fact that they're taking the money in every month. The only reason we did it is that this was our first camper purchase of any kind, and we were mildly freaked out about whether we could fix things ourselves or not.
 
I would say that not all dealers are alike! The dealer here got approval for two tent ends due to small leakage around some seams. They had to try seasoning the tents first but when it still leaked they replaced them. Yes, some dealers are horrible to work with but thankfully ours is not.

I have a 2015 X23B and they still used the plastic strip with the screws right through it and it is still making it crack and I was told by the dealer that it would not be covered by the extended warranty and they will not replace it, even though I have only used the camper about 7 weekends. Poor design, by an inferior RV maker and shame on the dealer for not fighting for its customers. Certainly will not be buying another camper from Hilltop Camper in Fridley.
 
Bunk j-rail cracked

I had a similar issue on my 2011 X18D. I had new j-rail replaced on the canvas by Bear Creek Canvas. They did a great job and were awesome to work with. I was hesitant to put screws back into the new j-rail so instead I used coax clips that I could drill and screw into the aluminum frame. Worked out well.

I like that idea!! I did not put screws in my new canvas yet and it, obviously, does not want to stay in place. Time to hunt down some of these clips.
