New TT owner with hitch question

I have a 2013 Ram Laramie 1500 Crew Cab with same wheels and gears. I loaded the wife and 2 and 6 year old up and went to a CAT scale (with full tank of fuel). I was shocked at the results....we weighed in at 6380lbs....GVWR of truck is only 6800lbs....I had 1000lbs left on the rear axle, but the payload was...well pathetic. Ram has the lowest payload (real world) of any of the full size trucks. I was so disgusted I am trading it in on a 3500 CTD Ram here soon. If I were to put a 600lb bike in the bed, I would already be over my payload capacity with the family in there....with Nothing left for trailer tongue weight. Do yourself a favor and go get weighed at a cat scale and then go from there

We bought a 2500 CTD HD Ram 2013 and love it. 3500 has even more towing capacity. The truck also gets really good mileage unloaded (or loaded). For instance; I have a friend with a Ford EcoBoost (gas) and his average mileage unloaded is 17.6 mpg. I'm getting an average of 20.1 and I tow more than him. The TD is a rocket ship when you step on the gas pedal.

The extra weight and strength of the HD means the towing is very stable and solid.

Love my truck.
