2010 Jayco Pop Up Camper -- RIGHT SIDE WONT OPEN

Fiance and I need to buy a camper very soon and was hoping if anyone here would be able to tell me if this is something worth looking at and is salvageable (says right side wont open).

Is a 2010 Jayco & wanting $1,400 on MarketPlace.

Have no idea what the going price would be, but my initial thought after looking at the picture is $300 would be my top offer. No idea how moldy or mouse infested it is, no propane tanks and if you “need” to buy a camper, presumably to go camping soon, you most likely would not meet the camping soon part of that statement by buying this camper.
If you want a restoration project, $300.

Run, don't walk, away from that deal.

1) delamination on the right side
2) new roof cap
3) probable water damage throughout
4) repair or replace cranking mechanism
5) probable new tires
6) probable new canvas
7) and likely additional damage

Really, disposing of that piece of trash would cost more than it's worth.

Excellent advice by both above posters.

I wouldn't take that in it's present condition if it was given to me. By the time you restore it, you will likely have spent much more than it's worth.

Try browsing craigslist in the "for sale" section. (And remember, those are asking prices.) Posting in the "wanted" section might get better results.

There are some zombies like that in the self store area I use. Can't believe people spend perfectly good money to store stuff like. You would have to pay me to take something like that.

20+ years ago we had hail damage to the roof of our camper. Replacement was estimated at $1,800 back then.

Find something that will open and close. Replacing cushions, repairing a rip or two in the canvas, new tires and maybe new hubs are doable and save a ton if you do it yourself which we did many years ago.

This one is recycle job, run!

Too Many Unknowns

For $500 I could see maybe giving it a try if you knew the owner and could get information on how it got to this point of abuse. Bigger concern is that it looks like it's been un-protected and the fabric on both sides is not visible. If the canvas is good with no tears it might be a viable "project"

If you have a limited budget, you’d be better off with a tent until you have the money to invest in a pop-up (or other RV) that’s in a good, usable condition. From your picture, it’s easy to see there are obvious issues with the roof and its lift system, openings that are permitting water to enter the unit and a general lack of care and maintenance. With that one roof support protruding through the roof, how would you even safely lift it enough to inspect the condition inside like:
  • the beds that slide out on each end.
  • floor integrity
  • refrigerator (if equipped)
  • Propane system
  • Water system
  • Electrical system
  • canvas
  • Furnace (if equipped)
  • Air conditioner

I believe this will be a major rehabilitation project and if you do elect to purchase this unit… good luck.

Maybe $200 bucks, strip it down to the frame, add a new floor and side rails and you have a nice little utility trailer for hauling your tent and gear up camping. You might recoup a few bucks selling off any unused pieces that are still in serviceable condition. The AC, fridge and stove might be worth a few bucks.

As one who did what you are considering back in 1983, RVHiker's advice is spot on! Starcraft Galaxy was in a storage yard. Seller was asking $3000.00. We offered $1500.00.

And then:

1. Rewired taillights to get it home.
2. Paid for new surge brake master cylinder and brakes.
3. New roof! $800.00
4. Moldy canvas eaten my moisture ants. Replacement: $700.00
5. New Tires.

Run away from this money pit!
