If I drop the extensions to ground, mine won't level because the system won't be able to lower the nose enough. Then I have to hook back up and shorten the extensions so I can get enough travel in...

I'm sure this doesn't help the OP, but my autolevel system has been perfect. Pull up to site, disconnect from TV, press auto-level, toss some blocks under rear jacks, and proceed to other tasks...
