Purchasing new tires for my Jayco precep 29v
Having troubles finding a newer DOT
All the manufacturers I have talk to all say the same, that you only count the years from the date in service, the dealers are also saying the same
Most of the brands that I am looking at re Toyo, Bridgestone, Mich have all been sitting on the shelves anywhere from 10 to 12 months
Does anyone know if this is correct

I replaced the tires with the same brand that were on there in the beginning. I am not sure what you are looking for but I strongly suggest contacting your local tire dealer, Discount, is mine and they do a good job, and following their advice.


Tire replacement is a very common topic here. Use the search feature and do some research from there. You will get a bunch of "this is what I use" which is where you sit is where you stand advice. Not what I would follow.

Basically when do u start counting the age of the tires
From the DOT or from the date of installation on the unit
So when I’m looking at replacement is it so many years from DOT or instalment date
All the manufactures I have talked to say from installation date
Just want to verify this

Pretty easy: is it the date of install stamped on the side of the tire or the date of manufacture?

What they're saying (and they're right) is a tire that's been sitting on the rack a year is perfectly fine. Your concern (which I agree with) is on top of that: How long will the tires last regardless of mileage. Campers are different from most vehicles in that they can easily have the tires age-out with gobs of tread left (or put differently, have very few miles when they hit 5-6 years old). AKA Age is as big or a bigger concern than mileage.

While it's true that storage (or use) under proper conditions can maximize tire life and storage (or use) under less ideal conditions shortens it, the point you measure from is the same.

Ask them if you can install some tires that have sat unmounted for 10 years if pre-mounting age doesn't count. Or if having the tires mounted on wheels but not inflated or installed on a vehicle magically starts the timer.
