Pole Barn size

For those of you with a big FW who have pole barns what size did you get?
Since my FW is 8.6w x 41.10L x 13.5 looking at a 20x46 with a side height of 12 and center 15.7 which gives it 15 high inside center. Code only lets me go 16 high

If it is only for the 5th wheel, your barn concept will work. All of the height is in the center of the trailer, so that is the only place where you need height. What kind of door did you have in mind?

Up here in the great white north, I park both my trailer and 2WD pickup in the barn, so mine is 28 wide with a 16' wide door. I angle the 5er in and then cut it at the last minute so my truck can get past the nose cap at the door end of the barn.

I am in hot Florida so looking at enclosed sides, half down in back and open front. This will allow plenty of airflow and keep sun off 90%. Having it put on gravel and anchored to withstand 150 MPH. This way it is considered portable and no additional tax on it or for concrete. They would tax it on my property bill if concrete pad and set in concrete

My current building is 36'x42' long, with 14' tall doors. Height is very close using the Andersen hitch because you have to raise the trailer up so high to get it off the hitch. I'm currently building a new house and building, the garage will be 40'x50' with 16' tall doors. You could go less pitch on the roof to give you a little taller inside side height, which is what I did on the first building because of height restrictions at my current home.

An important thing to remember on a pole barn is that the wall height is different than the ceiling height. The bottom cord of the truss is notched into the wall post so you loose that. Normally around 8". Also if you pour a concrete floor that may reduce your ceiling height since a lot of times it is poured against the bottom rat guard which is included in the wall height.


Edit: Reread your post. I was talking about a pole barn. You may be looking at a metal carport???

Ya it is a metal Rv carport. They said side height goes up 4 inches per foot. So four ft in from side I will be at least at 13 ft. Next size up goes to 22 ft wide. Trying to make sure it fits no problem, can open slides and not take up my yard. My neighbor just got his second one at both his properties from www.gaport.com and it looks well made and a good install job.

I had a metal RV carport installed in June. Love it and it with-stood hurricane Irma (the eye came through our county). Mine is 12x36x12. The only thing I would do different is to make it at least 14' wide next time. Other than that - love it! Keeps the unit nice and cool even in the hot, Florida sun in the summer.

Mine is 24'x48'x15'. Front gable is covered. Sides are open at the bottom but installed metal that comes down 8' below the eave. Wooden trusses with a metal roof and 6"x6" posts. Make sure you check your city or county zoning. I did not get a bp and mine is visible from the road. The county was not happy with me!

Thanks for input. Sixteen ft is max height for Boat or Rv shed and need permit. Gonna go 46 long covered sides and covered half back. Just trying to figure out 20 or 22 wide.
20 wide has 15.6 outer height and 22 will give 15.8.

How close is your 12 ft roof to top of ac. I looked up your unit and it is 11.9 ft high. You must be almost touching

My bedroom AC has plenty of clearance, no worries of touching. I went with the A-vertical (or whatever it's called) to keep out the rain. The other type is not rain proof. I also have 8 ft sides down each side. and both ends are open. I would love to have 20 ft wide, or at least 14 ft wide -that was my rookie mistake. Almost impossible to back in by yourself.

So what would you suggest for a fiver in height. I was not aware of the loss in height when building is assembled. Thanks

Thanks for bringing up this subject ,Rock I'm needing the same info.I wanted a little xtra room to hang a come a long to take out my companion slider which is a bit cumbersome to remove by myself.

If I remember correctly, my max at the peak is 13'6" or something really close to this

I am in the process of clearing a spot for my rv garage. Mine will be 50' long, 14 1/2' tall, but I am debating on the width. Planning on purchasing a 377 RLBH in the spring, but not sure of the width with the slides open. I would like to leave enough room for a lawn mower or other equipment in the garage even with the slides open on the 5th wheel.

Do any of you know the width of a North Point with open slides?

It is steel and the upgrade with 20 year warranty. I have checked several and all are within a few hundred. At least I can see the quality of the guy behind me.

A north point is 8 wide. The gear driven slide is about 3 ft, slim rack an schwintec about 2 ft.
The Pinnacles and Designer are 8.6 wide.

We just had a 20x45 & 15ft wall. Build for the next owner.
Ours is a weld up & has 3ft sidewall & back gable closed, 2/12 pitch. Set up the concrete with a slope for a future 14wide door & tin ledge to run metal all the way down if wanted. I had a baaaad experience with those carport kit style.

All I can say is my neighbor has two and the one here looks great. There website has a lot of good info
