I just had ours back for a broken shade and 2 steps on the ladder broke, called to see if it was finished and they told me it was and that while it was there they changed all the magnets on the brakes as per Jayco. I had heard a slight squeel at low speed but wasn't to worried about it. But I am glad that the dealer took it upon them selves to make the change before I complained about it. Ours is a 2010 31bhds.

Update to the Previous Update to the Previous Update.... Epic!

OK! We can't afford another $200 r/t to our dealer to have the next "fix" done on our brakes, so we contacted Jayco who gave me the contact number of "Connie" from Dexter who could authorize a local repair shop to do the job.

Connie was amazing. We gave her our name/number/vin #/etc and she was able to pull up our brake history from our dealer. Actually, I think she felt kinda bad for us with three previous tries and nothing working, but she got right on finding someone local to us to replace the backing plates and pads (hopefully the last fix!). She called me this afternoon to let me know that there is a mobile repair guy (does a lot of horse trailers, trailers of all kinds) and they are paying him to come to our house to fix the brakes! are we happy. This is also to our benefit as this guy does nothing but brakes, so I hope this is the last attempt to get rid of the squeel!!!

Of course, I'll post and let everyone know if the brakes no longer squeel!

That sounds promising since this guy should know his brakes. It would seem the dealer did not, or Dexter has created something that is very difficult to fix, which should not be the case with the seemingly elementary drum brakes on trailers.

Boy am I looking forward to your feedback after the repair work. Ours has been in twice for that noise, is still making it, and it will need to go in again soon before the warranty expires. Round trip to our dealer is about 200 miles, and a royal pain as the whole day is lost. I am at wits end w/ this business, and the inability of the dealer to get it fixed, even though both times I brought him copies of the forum thread and explained others were having the same issue. Sigh.

Mike, Don't wait. Contact Connie Massey at Dexter.... cmassie@dexteraxle.com

Include your vin #, tt year/model, name, address, and phone #.

Briefly indicate that your tt is already in the "system" through your dealer's attempts to fix the brakes with no luck yet. Also, let her know that the dealer is located to far away and it's difficult to get back there. Ask for Dexter to send you to a brake shop local to you. The nice thing is you will get a brake specialist doing your work for you and there's a good chance it may finally be fixed. Let us know how it goes

No not yet. Connie is having the pads and backing plates sent to our house. I spoke with the local brake guy already. He said to just call him once they arrive. Should get here this week I would think.

Alrighty, the very nice Connie at Dexter has authorized complete replacement of brakes at a local trailer service dept. They will ship them the parts and pay for the labor. All I have to do is get the axle info from the axle itself to them, which I plan to do tomorrow.

It turns out that my dealer's service dept. has never contacted Dexter about the issue, despite my printing out and pointing them to this thread, twice. Disappointing to say the least.

Anyway, a positive move forward to get this resolved. I will update as things progress.

UPDATE #... (lost count)

Mobile brake guy was here today and installed the backing plates and pads. He spun all four wheels and you could hear that only one sorta made a noise. He showed us the parts he removed and pointed out where the magnets were. He said that the metal that surrounds the magnets were lower than the magnets and that was causing the squeeling.

We will be taking off to camp tomorrow morning so will have a chance to see how the new "fix" works out. We'll post on how it goes.

Pics below show where the magnets and the surrounding metal.

I asked the brake guy that. He said no, but long term he couldn't be sure. He made that clear to Dexter to record in the computer in case we have problems after the warranty expires in Sept. We have a 1500 mile trip planned for late June. I would think we would know by then
