Number two in the number two business?

We are on our fourth trip in our 2024 Jayco whitehawk RB. The last trip the black tank completely clogged and I had to quickly purchase a wand to unclog it since I did not think I would have that issue in a new camper. I had plenty of water in the tank but as far as I can tell it's extremely shallow. It seems like one or two number twos will clog the inlet pipe directly below the opening. It has a " residential" porcelain toilet with a fairly long inlet shaft. It seems however that the bottom of the tank is only a few inches below the opening. Is anyone else having this issue? We have stopped using the toilet except for number ones lol 🚽 🪠

This is known as the dreaded poo pyramid. Most black tanks are like that. They are just a few inches deep at the toilet end and the bottom slopes down towards the back of the tank. The theory is that the "product " slides down, away from the toilet opening when you flush the toilet.

The answer is to flush with enough water to facilitate that slide. Enough is however much it takes.

Many here, including myself, have encountered the problem and most learn from their first experience. Use your facilities and flush generously. It will be a great relief. 😀

Key is to add a LOT of water after dumping. Pending on your tank size depends on how much water you should add. I believe we have a 30 gallon black tank, I add at minimum 5 gallons of water after I dump.

When you flush, add a lot of water, like a full bowl full or more.

When we are getting to the end of our trip, I will stand on the flusher, for a while and fill the tank to at least 3/4 full or more. Really never want to dump the tank without being 3/4 full.

Adding water to the tank before use helps keep the tank surfaces and sensors clean, maybe moreso if you use one of the many products. I'm not 100% convinced that they dissolve things as claimed, but I always dump some down with water after I dump.

Having said that, I don't think adding water before use like that is helpful in fighting the pyramid since once you are parked, all that water is in the deepest part of the tank and the part just below the toilet is still dry. It may help keep the contents of the tank more fluid but that is after thorough flushing clears everything away from the shallow area below the toilet.

Perhaps the Kleen Tank formula would work for you? It has the ingredient of Calgon bath beads. I believe that component of the concoction is what makes it so the tank walls are a bit slippery.

Nothing like a good poo pyramid discussion to get the juices going.

These threads always turn to crap!

Things change, I guess. We spent five winters in arizona in our 2011 Eagle. Used regular TP. Flushed a few times, added a couple gallons of water after draining. Never a problem.

Perhaps a change of diet will create a solution.

For anyone finding this via a search

New owners sometimes immediately create a poo pyramid when they are on full hookups and open the black and gray valves expecting all the water to drain. The water does drain but it leaves any behind solids behind. (Pun intended)

And they are all shallow to keep the number of steps entering as small as possible and your overall height down.

Never had one of them poo pyramid's but I was discussing this thread with my dw and she confided that for all these years she does not flush any paper? Camping for 25 years in rv's and I never knew this. I make up for it with my habits.

We never open the black valve except when full or leaving one site for another. Never used any chemicals but in our case, ours do not stink!

Based on another thread, on this trip I have religiously mixed and applied the mixture of Pine-sol and water softener to my tanks at every empty. So far I see NO difference in my tank monitors, zero none. They go down a little when I am completely empty and do what ever they decide to indicate when we start using them again. So I still have some left for the trip home but after that, I will save my $$$ for beer.
