Campground laundry facilities

This may be a strange question, but do most laundry machines in campgrounds accept quarters or what? We have never needed to use any and I haven't even been inside a regular laundromat in over 30 years. We are planning a 6 week trip this summer.

Everyone we have used took quarters. DW keeps about $20.00 in quarters stashed in the center console of the truck. The car wash takes quarters also.

Hi!

I stayed for 6 months at a campground outside of Rapid City, SD last year for 6 months. Thus campground had three laundry facilities. The machines all took quarters and the office always had change. It was great!

I keep about 10 bucks worth of quarters in the truck for this reason. My wife also usually has some quarter quarters with her.

X8 on quarters, lots of them. Drying is usually the most expensive cycle. We found that the commercial dryers just do not heat up like the ones at home.

We've (actually just my laziness) have used drop off services while in a town. Costs more but typically we can drop off in the morning and pick up either late in the afternoon or the desk day. The laundry is returned clean and nicely folded.

We go in a town nearby to do our laundry because a wash & dry usually take about 40 minutes each + the folding. A credit or debit card is the way we do it. During each cycle we either walk the dog or walk around town ( need to get those 7-10K steps in somehow)
Always carry 7-8 days worth of clothes and we’re usually traveling for 10 weeks at a time twice a year.

We've been to a dozen rv parks in the last 2 years. The newer places had credit card machines. The other places had mostly quarters. They all were immaculate btw.

I've come across a few different types of laundry facilities. The old classic ones that still take quarters, the newer ones that take debit/credit cards, and then the worst ones where you have to buy like a prepaid card, then add "credits" to those cards and then use that card for the machine. Those annoy me the most but sometimes that's all we've been able to use.

AHW I’ve experienced the same variety… and use left over quarters to gamble at pinochle!

In Canada it usually costs 3 loonies to do a load. We are going to the US this summer and I am wondering if you are using quarters how many do you need for a load?

Varies by campground
from free to (ack) 10
We don't carry change as usually there is a camp office that can make change

We do the same in Newfoundland Provincial Parks as we never have enough loonies and every once a while a twonie is required

We are lucky at our seasonal camp. The owner has an honour system and I dare say we all respect it. We also have a choice of using the dryers or the clothes lines outside to get that "fresh scent". Most of us are seniors and really prefer the cloths lines.
Cheers from NW Ontario.

No quarters, campground card

This past trip we hit a campground in Southern California which forced you to purchase a laundry card. Minimum purchase. Only could be used there. They did not take cash. Naturally we did our laundry at the next campground.

Unfortunately the honor system only works if the people using it are honorable, and that seems not to be the norm these days. One of the nicest places we have stayed for the past 7 years had to continually change the system because long term users were cheating at every opportunity. What is wrong with these people? It is "all about me" F everyone else because I need to save a quarter. Sorry folks but this is not the new generation, it is ours and it really is shameful.

It seems that the generation that claims to be the most honest and above the latest is the one that is so cheap that they cannot live by the golden rule that they all claim is so important.

Wash App

We just stayed at an RV resort in Coachella that had a nice laundry area and the machines used the Wash Connect app. You pay through the app and I think it lets you know when the machines are done too. It was a newer RV resort so I'm sure it's not the norm yet but it did seem convenient.

We're starting to see a transition to credit/debit cards. But keep a stock of quarters on hand!
