October Camping

I am taking my family camping Columbus day weekend and am looking for suggestions on places to go that may have Halloween Festivities for my son to do. We are looking to stay in New York and maybe the Northwest portion of Pennsylvania.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Depending on the age of your son, Idlewild park here in southwest PA does a very nice Halloween event on weekends in October. It's really tailored for the younger kids (I'd say 8 and under) but is fun and well done. The park site is www.idlewild.com

There are dozens of very nice campgrounds in the area and many local attractions other than the park itself. I understand that you want to stay toward the northern part of the state, but this one is worth the drive if you have the time.

We like Rip Van Winkle in Saugerties, NY. You will need to book now. We are going in August and were there last July. Also, in North New Jersey, we went to a very nice campground called The Great Divide.

Near Interstate 79 exit 99 (in Western PA) is our favorite campground -- Rose Point Park.

Might want to do some searching now for availability, state park campgrounds around us in Ohio are booked well in advance for Halloween weekend celebrations (they are not held on Halloween, but generally 2nd or 3rd weekend in October.)
