We bought local. The pricing was middle of the road (not the best or worst) and the dealership was right down the freeway a few miles. In retrospect, I could have saved a few thousand by looking further away, but the unit was the one we were looking for and it was right there. Now that that we are considering upgrading to a fifth wheel, I find their pricing to be rediculously high. I also feel that they don't stock enough Jayco's and that Jayco is seriously under represented in the Houston area. When we finaly decide to upgrade, I will seriously consider the wholesalers because their pricing and selection is unbeatable. Not to mention the customer service experience has been less than desirable with the local guys.

Amen. Especially the part about being underrepresented.

Saved a considerable amount scanning daily for what I was interested in being at a price that couldn't be beat. Drove a few hours to get it and feel it was well worth my time. That dealership I found over purchased what they thought was going to sell well and had a couple left to purge for new models to come in. My gain.

Local...
I got a quote from RV Direct but the local dealership got within $1000 of that price. I "might" have been able to drive 2000 miles each way for $1000, but maybe not. Had there been a 4-5k difference that would be a different story.

Did you travel a considerable distance to purchase your RV poll
We bought local after CW matched RV Direct pricing (plus added delivery to make up for more miles). I would have driven to save some money, but not sure exactly how much the difference would have needs to be.

We're fortunate to have a local family owned dealer who's always been competitive with others we've looked at. The rare warranty issues have been dealt with quickly and if it's an issue I choose to address on my own, they've offered guidance and tools if needed.

Bought (ordered) local, but traveled 1500 miles to Orlando to check out the model I was buying. (Well I was going there anyway, but made the special trip to RV dealer.. lol!)
I wasn't going to order w/o first seeing one up close and personal.
Waiting for January/February delivery.

250+ miles to the Harrisburg RV Show, where we ordered it. Then, once it came in, 225 miles to the dealership outside of Philadelphia, where Jayco shipped to. The funny part is that there is a Jayco dealership 15 miles from my home, but I've purchased two new units from them in years-past, and they screwed-up both orders...

I fully intended to buy from the local dealer, Burlington RV in Sylvania, Wisconsin, that is about 30 miles away. I bought my last trailer from them and my father ha bought 4 or 5 since 1983. Unfortunately they did not have the floor plan we wanted and since Jayco does not make them anymore, I will end up driving about 3 hours each way to get it. I did check Google reviews and the other dealer, TerryTown RV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and they were higher than my local dealer. I got a good deal, so hopefully I have a good experience on Friday when I pick it up.

We were looking for a 38FDDS. Closest dealer that had one was 180 miles away. Just so happens there was one at a dealer in Orlando. We going there on vacation anyway so we looked at one. After viewing one at a dealer in Florida we got back to Boston and ordered custom ordered from our local very reputable area dealer. Forrest marine RV in Tyngsboro ma.
Great people, great service.

We would have bought local, but no one had any thing that met our requirements and price had anything close to our requirements or price.

Very interesting that this thread has been resurrected after nearly 5 years. I admit I didn’t know it was out there.
When I started looking at Class A’s it was obvious to me that I was going to have to travel a considerable distance just to look at one in person let alone buy one. So for me it was a matter of researching online and then deciding to go look and hopefully finding one. It all worked out and we are very satisfied.

We shopped the local dealer after we decided which model fit our needs. And they did not carry it, had none on order, did not show any interest in getting one in. Called around and visited the two nearest ones and priced the Joliet, IL dealer who gave us a deal about a $1000 less than the other dealer.

We looked local for a while; however, we found what we wanted about 6 hours away. Saved over $5K on the price for the same trailer. Then we found out that trying to get it in anywhere local for service was a bit difficult. Still worth the drive and the $$$ savings

Found the trailer I really liked 60 miles one way. Bought at Camping World but if any service needs to be done,it’ll be done at a family business at the same distance.

Shopped around for our tt. Local CW had model we wanted in stock.
Internet search found a other one at a dealer close to the Md/PA line, about 500 miles away.
CW didnt want to negotiate much. We worked to try to give them our business but it was a no go.
The PA dealer had 3 in stock. Bought it on the phone with the dealer. We saved more than $5k.
Warranty issues were resolved by the local CW even though we didn't buy it there!
