Electrical cable conversion

I would like to convert our electrical cable to a permanent shore power connection. We just spent two hours untangling the cord from inside the storage box of our White Hawk 27DSRL. Would like to convert so we can just plug shore power into an outside outlet where we now feed the cord into the storage box.

Does any one have instructions on what is involved and how difficult it is? Electrical novice here.

Easy as it gets. It took me about 10 minutes. I can't find the pictures I took but its only 3 wires an 4 screws. There are a lot of you tube videos on installing a kit you can watch

What will stop the loose power cable from getting tangled up when you store it back in the trailer after use?

In my rig, the power cord is rolled up in a laundry basket.

Marineco makes a conversion kit. I did mine just after I bought this camper. Very easy conversion

That's why I was confused. How does the cable get tangled up when hardwired, but doesn't get tangled up when stored loose? It's the same cable, isn't it? I must be missing something...

My power cord is hardwired and I have a small compartment to store it. I just make sure I coil it and stack it correctly when I disconnect from the pedestal, and never have an issue.

I had a fiver that had the same problem. You have to shove the small 30a cord back into the small hatch hole. When removing it for use, it would often get wrapped around itself and you had to stick one arm in the hole not being able to see what you doing to get the cord untangled.

One time a dead mouse was in the back if the compartment and I could see him but had to preform Yoga to get it out.

Forget a 50a cord, as it would not even go in the hole.

My current rig has a 50a Marinco twist connector.

I have seen one camper had a short pull out shore power cable with the plug. then he used a an extension type shore power cable with socket and plug on it to run to the shore power connection. The idea is the short plug would not get all tangled up I guess. He kept the long extension cable coiled up in a bucket???

My off-road camper is still pulling out a long shore power cable thru the door hole which gets plugged into my 2KW generator alot that is sitting on my dropped tail gate... Being OFF-ROAD most of the time we like to survive using our bigger battery bank and then during our morning breakfast doing a 50% to 90% charge thing to the batteries plugged into the generator for three hours... Then we good again again for the next day/night run off the batteries.

The problem is the door that is being discussed is about 6 inches square. You have to push the cord into it by hand and pull it out the same way. No way to lay it in a nice pile.

This might not be a Ah Ha moment for some of you, but I went through that exercise when I first bought my rig. Trying to feed the cord down through the little hatch and back up caused more banged knuckles and tangled cord...

But then I had that Ah Ha moment.... now, I pull all the cord I think I will need to get to the pedestal out the compartment door and straighten it out. Then, I go back and feed the plug through the little hatch and over to the pedestal. This way I'm dealing with a straight cord and not a coiled up cord to get it through the hatch.

When when time to put it back in, I do the same thing. Pull all the slack and cord back through the little hatch, and lay it back straight out on the ground. Then I have full access in the compartment door to recoil it back inside, without fighting back through the hatch.

So much quicker, easier, and no tangles... and no bleeding anymore!!

My available space getting into the small compartment is about that size too. But since I adopted the method I just listed, after being frustrated too, it's not an issue anymore.

Here's the picture of my cable compartment door. Actually, the top half inside is blocked by a electrical outlet and the coax cable connection point, so only the bottom half is open for power cable storage.

Looking underneath, there is plenty of space to expand the size of that bin, which would have made life easier when storing the cable. Not sure why Jayco didn't use the available space...
