Jack failed
Thought I'd share my experience this past weekend. I have a '10 FR Salem 30QBSS and an Equalizer hitch. Hooked up at the storage lot (jack up and down no problem) to take it to the dealer to trade. Get to the dealer and jacking up the trailer and TV to disconnect bars. Almost up far enough and the jack fails and gears strip. Trailer and TV come back down to level and jack won't budge up or down. Now I'm stuck with a couple of trailers waiting to get in the gate.
I was lucky we were at the dealer and not out camping. Also, lucky it was attached to the TV or the tongue would have been sitting on the ground. The dealer was kind enough to replace it at no charge with one of the many manual ones they had laying around from electric swaps.

I had the same problem with my PUP a few (20) years ago only we were at a campsite. Used a small hydraulic jack to unhook and then rehook when we were ready to leave. Don't even want to think about what would have happened with a heavier trailer. Glad it worked out ok for you.

Did you trade it in on a Jayco? Not that it matters.just curious with a two year old trailer why you would be tradin? A number of years ago I had a trailer come off a tongue twister and plant the jack post a foot into the ground. I was lucky i wasn't hurt but I learned quickly how easy an accident can happen.

DW becoming a stay at home mom so generally downsizing debt/vehicles, and toys. Traded my truck for an earlier model suburban so need a smaller trailer to tow as well as a smaller payment.
I'll be a bit more cognizant of where my body parts are when jacking the trailer up and down from now on

Glad it wasn't more serious. As a new rv'er this also will make me more conscious when jacking up.

Glad you weren't under when it happened.
Can you explain "Tongue Twister"? (sounds bad)

My father-in-law gave it to me as a present. It enables you to move your coupler of the trailer several inches either way so it's over the ball of the hitch. My father-in-law always had trouble aligning his trailer with the hitch. With this handy but dangerous little device all you just have to have is the tv the right depth and than use the device to synch the coupler over ball. The problem with this is it is not very wide. My trailer was on bit of a slant which put forward pressure on the tongue. You have to have your trailer wheels blocked real well.
I gave it away sometime later because I don't really need it. But it would be handy for some people. I'd rather realign the tv than fiddle with that thing.

Hmmm, in a perfect world it probably works good. Thanks for the story and explanation. I think the bride and I will just work on our hand signals.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but what brand of electric jack was it?

Glad no one was hurt. It is nice that you were at a dealer when it happened. Having help close by is a good thing.:0

No electric. Just a manual replaced with a manual.

I have one, and I wouldn't hitch/unhitch without it. Easy to operate and saves a lot of backing hassle.

Agreed. I didn't want to suggest I was so good at backing up that I wouldn't find it handy. Sometimes it can be a chore to get it right and if this is helpful why not. I've seen the odd one in use and am surprised more people haven't bought them. I do think they need to broaden the base to make it less susceptible to tipping over.
