Norcold Fridge defrosting question

I noticed yesterday when we were leaving the cg and unplugged from shore power that the little black reservoir on the outside behind the outside grill was full of water. I just so happend to open it out of curiosity. It's strange because I would think it would have a drain with small hose attched to let water drain out Vs. Just spilling out on to the wood below. I do see a little area which looks like a tap out plug but not sure.
Has anyone modified this little black drip tray to allow water to run down the side of the TT? I should have taken a picture of it.

The catch tray is there to allow the water to evaporate, from the heat back there. I sop ours up with a towel when we get home from a trip after it thaws out, and wipeout the inside of the fridge. The tray only has a couple ounces of water in it. I did notice our drip hose is long enough to stick out of the vents to drain on the outside of the compartment, but we have bug screens on the cover. I'd have to make a hole for it to go through. A previous TT had a larger hose sticking through the cover, but after time, it started to get brittle and broke off. Maybe this was a fix for that situation.
