Advice Needed: Camping with Toddlers in Diapers

Hi everyone,

We just bought our first trailer, a 1206 PUP and will be going on our first trip in a few weeks with my identical twin 2-1/2 year old sons. I am looking for advice from anyone who has camped with a child or children in diapers to make things easier. Particularly anyone who has done it in a PUP.

I know we will have a lot of fun and really enjoy camping. However I also know there will be some challenges as well. If anyone has any ideas to make those challenges easier I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

We went for our first 4 day weekend with our 6 month old last week. We use cloth diapers but for the camp we bought disposables (the most environmentally responsible ones we could find as the wife likes to keep our pollution to a minimum) but other than that it was almost like being at home. Without having a dedicated change table we just got in the habit of making sure everything we needed was within arms reach before starting the unwrapping of the "present". He's not mobile yet so a folding play pen was good enough to keep him out of trouble when we weren't inside the trailer. Good luck and have fun!

Try to get a site close to the bathhouse or restroom. You'll be going ALOT! That's one of the reasons we upgraded to a TT with a bathroom!

As mentioned, paper diapers, play pen, lots of water and extra clothes and they will be fine. Take lots of pictures they grow fast.

We were still tenting when our kids were that young. As our boys are 6 years apart we definitely didn't have the challenges you might with twins, but when our youngest was 2 1/2 yrs old we used camping as the time to potty train him. Whoo what an adventure! It was over a long weekend luckily and that's all it took. He still needed a diaper through the night but it didn't take long before he'd wake up with a dry diaper. Voila!

^ A site near the bathhouse is great advice. Good luck!
