Boondocking or Full Hookups? What's Your Preference?
After three weeks of camping with no hookups whatsoever, I'm now set up at a place with full hookups.
It sure is nice not having to go out and start the generator every now and then to charge the batteries. And it's nice being able to use all the water, cold or hot, that I want to. And it's nice to be able to plug into a wall socket anytime and have power. Nice that the microwave works any time I want it. And it's nice knowing I won't have pull camp and go to the dump station when my tanks are full. Nice that I have air conditioning if I need it, too.
Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy the challenges of boondocking, and the peaceful seclusion that sometimes goes along with it, but man, this full hookup stuff is a real nice change of pace!
So what kind of camping do you prefer? Boondocking or full hookups?
Bill

Depends on what favorite campground I go to. I schedule the boonies campgrounds for 2-3 days before full hookups to do just what you mentioned. I look it as full hookups is the reward for being so conservative with your resourses for a few days.

NEAT TOPIC BILL! I'M CONVERTING THIS TO A FUN POLL FOR 2011!
After years of tent camping, we stopped camping because it came to be too much work. We got to the point where we wanted to camp to relax and not spend longer amounts of time to cook and clean. Don especially really started feeling envious of those with the comforts of home with them. Then we started to travel the US with the kids during the summers when they hit middle school in the early 90's. After the first year, we fell in love with this little thing they called a pop-up tent trailer! We saw them all over the mid-west! Didn't see too many in Cali at the time, but found a few dealers that had them. It was sooooo kewl to be hooked up and ready to cook in 15 min compared to an hour by the time we finally got the sleeping and food/storage tent set up. LOL, that little Rockwood tent trailer was like the Taj-Mahal to us
Now-a-days, we are spoiled with the amenities of home while camping. Rarely do we "boondock" (usually one night at a WM while traveling long distance). Occasionally we will go to a state park that doesn't have hook-ups.
At any rate, and don't get me wrong (God Bless Boondockers!), but we both prefer full hook-ups now-a-days because when we do camp, it's usually for 3-4 nights minimum.

Being an old Boy Scout, I have never really considered my RV experience camping and I didn't buy it to "camp" in, but to vacation in. I strongly prefer full hookups where we can use the TV, Central Air and all the other amenities that are offered to today's RV users. Now to me, "camping" is getting in the Jeep, putting it into 4wd-lo and heading deep into the woods where there's a small clearing, or canoeing with an overnight stop on a small river island gathering local firewood and cooking that freshly caught fish with the only light being the fire, the moon and the stars above.

Boondocking... I only run my gen if I have more than 3 days of heavy overcast.. and as long as I can find a dump station for the 2 blue boys and a source of freshwater I am a HAPPY CAMPER.

I'm kinda AC/DC, does not matter which way I swing. Been a seasonal camper with full hooks and then spend the better part of a winter boondocking, kinda backwards I guess but thats the way it works out sometimes.
Right now I am plugged into power but trucking my water and been doing that for a good month now.

We do a lot of boon docking when traveling to save cash. Sometimes WM, sometimes out of the way safe looking places. Every 3-5 nights we will pull in full hookup place, stay a couple, dump sewers and fill water before hiting the road again. We can make it about 10 days on black tank but only 4-5 on grey.

My preference is boondocking, followed by "rustic", then full-hook-ups.

I prefer full hook ups with cable I have had sites in the past with just water/electric, sometimes with just 110 outlets. I have boon docked at NASCAR at Louden,NH.
We used the generator in the Class C and they had trucks delivering water/ice and a septic truck to empty your tanks. On the last day we had our tanks pumped. We did use the port a potties for #1 and the track showers, so w were able to last the 4 days. It was cool at night, so no need for A/C.
We boon docked at Mohegan Sun Casino in Ct, but that was only one night.
