Had never seen one and it was a shock
We were cruising through West Point, VA on our way to Belle Isle State Park. About 100 yards ahead I saw an Airstream rolling slowly towards the gas station exit onto the highway. My initial thought was, "Oh, ****! Someone's trailer got loose!"
Well I was half right. It was an Airstream but not one like I've ever seen in our three years of RVing. Until then, I had no idea they made motorhomes.

There's one that has been sitting at a house on the road I drive to work for at least 20 years. Last summer it showed up on craigslist with no asking price. So, I give them a call.......They wanted $55K. Not surprising, it is still sitting there.

They were made in at least two different lengths. Chevy 454. One of my friends owns TWO of them! There also are "Airstreams" that look like conventional Class A rectangular-box conversions a la Prevost. Don't know what the underpinnings are but I saw a couple of them at Alumapalooza. Then there is an Airstream 5er, with slideout, believe it or not. Perhaps a one-off prototype.

I live about 15 mins from the Airstream factory in Jackson Center Ohio. I know several people that work there, one is in the repair / mod building. The 5th wheels were actually production, I was told they were discontinued due to stress problems at the drop. Also, Airstream now manufactures a "touring coach" basically a small class C on a Mercedes Sprinter van. They are actually selling more of those than travel trailers. When you drive by the factory there is almost nothing but the Sprinter van chassis setting every where.

I can believe that they are selling those Sprinter-based things but for the life of me I have no clue why anyone is buying them.

Me neither. My brother owns an Airstream, he bought it as a wreck. It was a basket case, everything tore out of the inside and just laying in it, this was done by the previous owner who also tried to fix the damaged outside and couldn't. Anway, all of the stuff inside(appliances etc) were the same brand as the Keystone that I owned at the time. Now maybe all the appliance manufacturers have different level stuff, higher end for Airstream, lower end for others, I don't know but it still doesn't seem to justify the price. The small single axle Airstream is $45k, the 28' is about 90k and the Sprinter vans are upward of $150k. Not sure who is buying, but Airstream can't build any of it fast enough.

Was scanning through some on-line stuff one time and ran across this photo of a Bowling Alley in an AirStream Motorhome...
There was another photo with one equipped with a SKYDECK
