Was on our dept. for 22 years. Was all volunteer. Was a firefighter for 10 years and chief for 12 years. I stepped down to let the young ones have it. Did miss it for awhile but over it now. Had fun when was there. All you guys be safe that are still doing it.

I spent 12 years as a volunteer firefighter in my town. Learned a lot and did a lot of interesting things in my time with our dept.

Spent 15 years as a Volunteer & part time paid with a Licking County Ohio Dept. Our dept had a Scout Explorer Post, it was very rewarding to see the young explorers decide to make a career of the fire service. I would not trade the experience and the family relationships from my fire service I still enjoy. I think of the guys out west fighting the wild fires and how dedicated they are, God Bless them all!

Late to the discussion but I've been a firefighter with my city department over 20 years, currently a captain. I was also a firefighter with the Navy on several carriers for 4 years and volunteered many years as well in various towns. So my adult life has been serving in the fire industry. One of my proudest moments was when my youngest daughter became a career firefighter two years ago! She was also nominated her first year to be an elite member of the state honor guard...pretty proud dad!! And finally, my mom (serving as a volunteer EMT), and both of my grandfathers (serving as volunteer firefighters for over 50 years in their local town) have provided the legacy of this firefighting family.

I retired from a 32 year fire service career in 2005 with the rank of Captain/EMS Field Supervisor from Orange County, Fl Fire/Rescue. Twenty-six of those years I also served as a paramedic. What a ride it was..............
