Cold weather heating

I have a 2016 precept 31UL. I have it winterized but wonder if I should keep the heat set a 60 in the motorhome. I have a 30 gal external propane tank and would like to keep the heat on just for some insurance against freezing. Any thoughts.

I would think you would end up burning through quite a bit of propane. Heater have the highest BTU's with the most propane consumption. Is it possible to run an extension cord and use a ceramic electric heather with a thermostat? I would imagine that would be easier, cheaper and maybe even safer.

Agree, running propane heat constantly would be a huge, unnecessary expense. With that said, I don't see anything wrong with keeping the coach around 40 degrees during the cold snap that is passing thru the country right now.

The space heater makes good sense. I would spend the money on power cord and heater before I would buy that much propane. The coach does not need to be heated, just warmed above freeze point.

Remember to leave the cabinet doors open below the sinks for air circulation to the pipes underneath.

If it's winterized, why do you feel the need to heat it to ensure it doesn't freeze? Do you keep food or other things stored in it that would be damaged if it got below freezing?

We had a small MH that, once we winterized it and removed all the food etc., it sat all winter (in Michigan) without a problem. I did put on a 'trickle charger' on the batteries from time to time to keep them fully charged.

The small increase in fire hazard alone negates any benefit of using the heater once you've winterized. I would skip it completely. Even running one of those 1500 watt ceramic heaters nearly 24/7 isn't exactly cheap.
