Dave, Try the plywood solution first. It distributes the weight. We have wintered in Mission several times. Will winter in Mercedes this winter. I'll give you a shout when we get there.

I believe the bins in the Precept 31ul and Alante 31v are the same. Jayco states they will hold 200 lbs if the weight is evenly distributed. When we did the Jayco RV tour two weeks ago, I asked the person about reinforcing the bins and he recommended using 1/2" - 3/4" plywood or similar instead if the weight will not exceed the capacity.
My reason for asking is that I currently have one 12v Deep Cycle battery in the bin next to the battery/propane compartment (for a total of three 12v batteries with 315Ah) but want to swap out those for four 6v batteries in a couple of years.
Thanks for all the input. The tool chest likely weights less than 100 lb. I can pick it up and move it and I old. Allen, how does the extra 12 v battery work. Did you just hook it up in parallel? I have a 1000w inverter, any special considerations?
I actually added two 12 volt batteries in parallel. One of the batteries is in the battery tray but the third battery does not fit so I put it in the bin next to it
I have 4 6V battery's in my 2015 31UL two in the tray in the propane bin two in the bin beside it no problems. I also have a 1500 watt inverter two small fuse boxes and a transfer switch. I mounted these on half inch plywood then mounted the plywood to the side wall in that bin. This set up runs everything in the RV on solar other than the front TV and plug on the dash on passenger side that are on the invert under the bed. Mik
