Cavagna Regulator Question

after finding my propane tanks empty, I discovered I had a leak on one of the pigtail hoses

I purchased standard Camco replacement hoses for the Columbus Day Weekend trip. Just before leaving went to install new hoses that have a 1/4" male inverted flare thread, only to find this regulator requires 1/4 MPT hoses. Tried to locate an adapter at Home Depot on the way to the campground, no success, so I bought a grill regulator/hose combo and used that to temporarily connect one tank to my RV for the weekend.

While disconnecting the Cavagna Automatic changeover regulator, I believe this small rubber piece fell out, but I cannot determine where it came from. I only found 1, so I don't think it goes in the output ports.

Does anyone know where this should go, so I can reassemble when I buy the correct hoses, or the special adapters made for this?

thanks in advance!
