Oversize dually tires, problem?
Yesterday I brought home a new to me 2013 Dodge Dually. I have zero experience with dually trucks. It has oversize tires mounted on it (LT285/70R17) which I was going to leave on it until time to replace, then go to a "stock" size tire. I have attached a pic of the current tires, not under load, that seem to be touching. I know I will have to be diligent about looking for rocks/debris wedged in there, but wondering if I should replace them now with smaller tires due to rubbing. I can live with the sound, but maybe not a blow out. What do you think?

I have no experience with a dually but I do have experience in tires working in a tire shop for a while. My personal opinion is I would change. I would hate for something to get wedged up in there and have a blow out. That's just me though. My family is worth the price of a new set of tires.

You have a serious problem. The tires should NOT TOUCH loaded or unloaded.

Agree with previous posters. Those tires should never touch and if you read online, there are minimum clearances recommended by the manufacturer. Seems I remember reading about it in my owners manual.
I would not risk a problem.

You can change the tires. A cheaper alternative is spacers between the hub and outer wheel.

Thanks everyone...confirmed my suspicions...I may explore spacers but will probably change the tires. Although they may look cool, I am not a big fan of oversized beefy tires and especially not for pulling. Thanks again....Dan

Spacers are a bad idea. They shift the load center on the bearings out which puts more stress on the bearings and can cause increased bearing wear and premature failure.

Another item to check is make sure the truck has the correct rims on it. If they have the wrong offset on them the tires will touch.

That tire size seems really small for that truck...I would double check the size

I did; it is the correct tire size.
