12 volt works only with shore power
Hello Everyone,
Bought my first camper, A 2009 Jay Feather EXP 23B. I only have 12 volt power if shore power is hooked up, except for the electric jack, it works. I know baterry is good, first fuse after baterry is good and I have power at first connection after first fuse.
Pulled converter and fuses in converter are good. I have looked for a relay switch with no sucess. If there is one does anyone know where it is located? Tracing wire is going to be difficult, but that will be next. Any help will be much apperciated.

Hogan, You will get better electrical advice from other folks on this forum than I can give you. I would contact the manufacturer of your converter and see if they can lead you to the relay you are looking for. I suspect it's part of the converter.

I know I have circuit breaker right near the battery. I would see if you have power on the TT side of it..Its independent of the wires going to the jack..

I have a fuse just off of the battery. Did not see a ciruit breaker. Thanks for the reply.

Can you tell if you are getting 12V at the converter? If not then a break in the line from the battery to converter. If there's 12V at the converter then the problem probably lies there.

HOGAN - Keep in mind that the on-board converter puts out 12VDC when yu have shore power plugged in. The Battery 12VDC is also suppose to be present there as well.
Sounds like you have a 12VDC disconnect of some sort between your battery terminals and the 12VDC Power Distribution panel where the on-board converter also connects up..
There my be a battery disconnect switch provided for this. There is also two large ATC type fuses in that same leg called REVERSE POLARITY fuses. Look for those as well.
This is what I do for checking just about everytime I get ready to hit the road. I will measure the two terminals of the battery without shore power cable plugged in and it will read 12.6-7VDC if the battery is fully charged. Then I plug in the shore power cable and this DC VOLTAGE will then jump up to 13.6VDC telling me the converter/charger unit is connected and working.
You can also use your trailer ceiling lights to do the same test. They should come when the shore power cable is not plugged in. The ceiling lights get their power from the 12VDC Distribution panel which is powered by both the battery and/or the shore power cable being plugged in turning on the converter/charger unit. I can see my ceiling lights get a tad brighter when I plug in my shore power cable.
Hope this helps... I'm betting you have blown REVERSE POLARITY fuses when you sparked the battery terminal recently... You may have them hooked up backwards even... Make sure the the word "NEG' or the SYMBOL '-' marked on the battery case goes to the trailer frame ground.

On my 2012 198RD there is a circuit breaker on the front cross frame, I think a poor place for wet road conditions. Circuit breaker might be corroded. So just follow the batt. main wire towards your converter

Thanks Roy, Battery is hook up right. I only found one fuse which I did replace. On the converter I did find two fuses and they were fine. If there is another fuse or switch it is well hidden. My Battery has 12.8vlts with or without the shore power. So I may have a converter problem. I have contacted converter manufacture and I am waithing on an answer. Thanks for the help

There is definitely a problem either in the connection between the converter and batteries or with the converter itself. Voltage should increase to ~13.6 when on shore power.

Yes Sir, Talked with the finally talked to the converter tech. He said i needed to pull converter. There are two more fuses inside converter. Thank You for the reply, Hogan
