Metal bands/straps around black tank
So I was looking underneath our 23b and I couldn't help but notice that there are metal bands or straps that go underneath the black tank. These bands hang down a good 8 inches or so from the tank. Looking at the gray and fresh water tanks, those bands are snug underneath. My question is should the bands on the black tank be the same? We bought the camper last fall and the band's were like that from the beginning.
Thanks in advance.

Not really sure what the bands are truly for. Our are all loose fitting. There is only one screw on each end securing it to the underside of the floor, so it is not a safety strap. I think the bands are there as part of the construction process. But that I only a guess.

I guess I'm not sure myself. You are correct with how they are connected with one bolt on each end. At first thought I figured it was for safety. Well I just wanted to know if I had a problem on my hands. Maybe not.

Those bands are used to hold the tank In place to the frame during the manufacturing process at Jayco. They just don't remove them when they are done. They do not provide any support for the tank.

If they are hanging down 8" from the bottom of the tank I'd remove them lest they get hooked on something while towing...like someones muffler that broke off their car.

The bands on my black and grey tank are both loose fitting. Maybe ask Jayco, or a dealer before you remove them.
I thought they were just there as a back up.

One idea I read somewhere is that they are loose fitting to accomodate tank expansion/weight as the tanks are filled..but I haven't checked to see if this is true.

I don't even see my tanks! Guess that means I have an enclosed bottom. I would not know they were coming loose until the bottom falls out! I do see a lot of large staples coming loose from the bottom. Was under there yesterday looking for the slide out motors but they are all covered up too. If I ever have a problem with a slide out, guess what? Gonna have to cut a hole in the nice enclosed bottom. I am also seeing some nice scrapes and cuts on the slide out bottoms where they slide in and are obviously sliding over some screws or something. Maybe I should not have been noising around!

I thought the same thing when we purchased our first TT. I called Jayco and asked them. Their response was they are to hold the tanks in place during the manufacturing process. The tanks wouldn't expand that much.

I sure hope the tanks don't expand down 8 inches!! A finger width maybe but not 8 inches.
