Spare tire carrier too low and hits the ground
We just bought a X17Z and love it. EXCEPT for the spare tire mounting location. The tire carrier is very low to the ground and scrapes our driveway when pulling in; and the transition from the street to our driveway is NOT excessive in the least. I want to relocate the tire and the rear bumper looks like the best option. Has anyone else found a solution to this dilemma? Jayco's owner's manual says the bumper is rated to carry 100 lbs, so placing the spare tire on it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm trying to relocate the tire myself to reduce weight. I have two tanks, tire, battery pushing the tongue weight way up. I've looked on Ebay and they are one or two deals on 4" bumber spare carrier, should be doing that soon. My camper is 2014 Jay Feather Ultra 197 .

The spare tire for my 2015 SLX16XRB came located on the back bumper (tire mount). I'd think this could easily be done for yours as well.

I bought a tilting mount from e-trailer and was originally going to mount it to the back bumper but the bumper seemed to be too weak to support it. I eventually mounted it to the trailer tongue (see pic) and have plenty of clearance when backing real tight on that side.

Thanks Jerdog. After my original post. I had a chance to look at the bumper again. You're right. The bumper is VERY flimsy! There is no way it could support a spare tire. I like your idea of mounting it to the tongue. I will most likely do this once we get out new baby out of winter storage.

I put a spare on my bumper this past July. Works great. Check out my old thread for details:

My 23b had one hanging below the a frame. I determined that with the WDH attached that the tire could not be removed. I carry my tire in the TV and the rack is stored on a shelf in my shed.

Maybe you can add some caster skid wheels on the bottom of the trailer to keep the over hang from dragging the ground...

herewego,
In front under the tongue is where Jayco mounted my spare tire. That's why it's a problem. It is too low to the ground. I need to relocate it to a position where it clears the ground.

I think Roy meant to put the skid wheels on the tongue to keep the under-slung spare from hitting the ground. I had thought the same thing as Roy, but he posted first.

Your best bet I would think is on the top of the tongue or inside the TT while towing.

New twist on this question. 2018 Eagle 28.5 RSTS 5th wheel. My spare is also bottom mounted between the front jacks-hanging too low. My idea is to move it behind the axels to decrease pin weight and increase ground clearance. Any thoughts?
