Passed my 3rd rung on the ladder exam.
I'm now a Certified RV Service Technician with an electrical specialist designation. Up from a Registered Technician.

RodgerS, congrats! I might be interested in doing the same thing. How do you go about becoming a certified RV tech? Are there schools set up that teach the subject?

I am interested in the certification structure. Not to be one but to just be informed if I ever need to know. Where does one go to find out?
I would think that there are some professional organizations that do this. I know my wife has to do that in the medical field every three years, same as realtors and auto mechanics.
When I see a $90 an hour for working on your rig, what are the persons qualifications other than belonging to JOF!

Interested as well. School of hard knox will only get you so far, and that's the only schooling I have. Have no paper or schooling to prove anything. I've wanted to work in the RV industry my whole life, but it just hasn't ever happened. What I do now has a comfortable income so it'd be hard to shift gears to something like that. But, working on mine or other's RVs is pretty much all I do on my 6 months off, when we're not using it. We have a nice huge shop to do work in, but even if I was certified, nobody would come to Florien, LA in the middle of nowhere down a logging road to have something done. In the meantime, I'm always dreaming of getting into it somehow, somewhere, someday.

Follow the learning center link on this web page The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association: Certification.
One approach is to go to Florida and spend $12 -$15k for three months intense training. The course is $6,000, the rest is for expenses, which would be less if you took your Rv. RV Training Center, Inc. - classroom & hands-on

My approach was the online courses at this link Home
There are other approaches you can easily find, some take a week or so for some basic training. But you have to research this and decide what will work best for you.

After I got to the 2nd rung, registered tech, I took a job as an rv tech for 3 months at an RV rental outfit for hands on experience.

Thanks RodgerS. I will check it out. It'll give me something else to do out here in the Quartzsite desert.
