Good luck.

Hubby bought a big ole Champion 4750 dual fuel gen to run the ac with and of course coffee and the micro. It's a bit loud but not horribly. Thinking about building some kind of insulated box to help quiet it down some

Those are generally good at sporting events and such but will draw some complaints at a peaceful state or national park. I experienced this in The Big Horns this past week. The place was dead quite when a guy fired up his contractor generator. Folks were all over the CG host about it.

Quite a few CG have set decibel limits for generators as well, and they are generally close to what the inverters are. It may pay to check it out before getting somewhere you can't run the generator. We tried long ago to build a box for a big construction generator, but they can't really be fully enclosed without risk of overheating (we boiled the gasoline in the tank. Lots of fun). By the time you unload the thing, build the box, and hope it is quiet, you may be farther ahead to get the inverter style.

Lots of good information I posted about EU2000i's, twin EU2000i's, a EU3000i, and a Yamaha that really should get more attention than it does. I've included use case scenarios as well as NOISE considerations (further down the page).

I too have the 2000w Champion generators. Works great!!!!
I've had it side-by-side with the Honda and noticed no difference what so ever. With being half the cost, you could buy another set if needed years later and still not be spending more. Also, the Champions stack nicely.

You say you're new to this so suggest you might want to listen carefully to the voice of experience. Generators like you have are LOUD and may be legal but never welcome at a campground unless you're boondocking miles from anyone else. You can not build a box that will make these things quiet. Less noisey maybe but still objectional to anyone 10 sites around you. Thousands of posts have been written on the subject so please read a few.

Just look at the stares you'll get from your neighbors when you pull past other campers with your Big Genny sitting high in the back of your pickup. They are all praying that you don't stop on their loop.

it's all we could afford and it rates only 10db's higher than what most of you all use. We never run it for more than 20 minutes twice a day (pot of coffee and a cpl baked potatoes in the micro) It can also run our home during power outages. I have walked away from it and it is NOT that LOUD, no one has given us the evil eye at all. We usually like to plug in if possible

Hint if you are set on buying Honda ... periodically check their website; last year they had a great sale in late fall, and a $0-down no-interest financing deal. Turned-out to be DH's Christmas gift.

I have a bit of a newbie question... I have a Coleman Mach 3 plus A/C unit and I read in a lot of places that the Yamaha 2400ISHC should be more than enough to run it as long as nothing else is...

The problem I am having is that It's not. I turned off all the breakers except the main and the AC and still nothing. Am I doing something wrong or does the generator just not have the juice?

Altitude matters. How high were you when you attempted to start the Coleman Mach3? If I recall gas engine loses 3% output per 1k feet. So at 5k ft you are only operating at 85% capability.

There are others who know these technical facts much better than I, hopefully they can clarify if I am incorrect.

Also is you Coleman Mach 3 a 13,500 or 15,000 AC? The Yamaha documention specifically refers to 13,500 high efficency air conditioners.

Yup, that was my question too. 15k or 13.5k unit?

We sold our 10 year old honda 2000 for 600.00 and bought a champion 3100 with auto start. It has enough power to run one air conditioner. We paid about the same price as new honda 2000 that does not have the surge power to start an air conditioner. Remote start and stop is an awsome feature.

I bought a Honda EU6500is when I bought my fifth wheel, and have not regretted it. It will run the entire camper (including both air conditioners) 24/7 and it is not noisy. It fits in the basement for transport.

Good tip on the Altitude, but I should still have enough Amps ( I think)

The A/C is 13,500 BTU

Sadly in Canada, Paralleling the generators is not CSA approved so I'd have to get them from the US...

That's surprising. That Yamaha is supposed to handle the load.
