Sealed Hubs?

I went out to grease the bearings for the first time, and when I took the center cap off, the fitting was sealed. Or does this boot come off? I pulled on it a little, and there was no give, so I didn't want to break it.

That is a rubber dust plug. It comes out and the zerk is behind it. But I highly discouraged using that method to grease rhe bearings. I only recommend taking it apart and packing the bearings.

I agree with packing new bearings, but Ive only towed it approx 3500 miles so far, so its just preventative until the season is over, and I can get the job done right. Thanks for the input.

That darn rubber plug should have a skull and crossbones on it, enter at your own risk.

Over 45,000 miles using EZlube every 10,000. Just finished brake job ( new magnets) and checked bearings while apart. Perfect condition. As long as you follow the simple procedure of rotating the wheel while using a hand grease gun it works just fine. Some people still think points are a better ignition system, others resist change, and still others have trouble following simple directions. Do what you feel like, just hard to believe Zlube axles would still be around all these years if they were as bad as some seem to think.. Just my opinion, sure there are plenty more out there in the world of the internet.

You can get the correct procedure from the Dexter Axle web site.

I would listen to Earl.
I and a few others have grease on our brakes.
You don't want that.
Even my dealer said they won't do it that way.
