Backup Camera Prep?
Hello. This is my first post here. I've owned a 96 Jayco Eagle for going on 20 years, and we've decided it's time to upgrade. We're in the process of buying a 2016 Jay Flight 29RKS; the order has been placed with our dealer. My question is about the backup camera prep: can someone tell me exactly that means, and how easy/difficult it would be to hook a camera up to it?
Thanks,
John

Thanks for the information. What I'm wondering, though, is what part of that has already been done in a unit that is marked "backup/security camera prepped"? I'm assuming they've already done the wiring for the camera, but I can't verify that...nor do I know where the wires would be?
Also, it seems kind of odd to call it a "security" camera when the power to run it comes from the clearance lights...since those are not powered unless you're hooked up to your vehicle. I'm wondering if, when Jayco does the prep, that power comes from another source?
Thanks,
John

That I'm not sure of 100%. My unit has a switch for the camera that may make it work when unhitched. I don't have the camera but it is prewired.

The power for the camera is behind the center clearance light at the back of the trailer. The monitor is wireless and sits on the dash or stuck to the window like a gps. It plugs into the cigarette lighter for power. In the 338rets there is a 12 volt outlet in the bedroom and if you plug the monitor into it you can watch the back of the trailer "security camera ?"

John, do you then also have a switch that allows the camera itself to be powered when not attached to the tow vehicle? Seems like you must.
Thanks guys.

Yes on mine it is located in the front storage compartment passenger side, and labeled backup camera. You can shut it off from there.

John have you tried yours yet? I have a label regarding the back up camera in the same spot, but the switch next to it is for the LED light on the front cap that are aimed at the hitch area.

I have a 2016 338rets and the switch for the front lights are outside to the right of the propane cover. Interesting ! Mine's on order but the brother in law bought the same one at the Hershey show without the camera so I only know about the prewired switch. Everything else is the same.

Ours is on order. But since we're buying the camera from Jayco and the factory rep said the switch is there, I hope he's right.

Update: I tested it out today finally, and I found that switch is for both the camera and the forward facing hitch lights. I guess they don't want you driving down the road with the camera activated???

You should have that checked out, it may be wired wrong. Mine's still on order but my brother in law bought that same model at the Hershey Show And the switch is just to the right of the propane cover down low. The camera switch has no effect on the light.

Seems odd to me too. The factory rep was telling us how great the camera is at setting what's behind you while driving. I don't think the hitch light should be running off that switch.
