Battery and rv storage

Have a new Whitehawk. I store it in a storage lot. When I put it away I disconnect the battery from the trailer. I connect th battery the night before I take off to run the refrigerator. Seems to work well.

I am wondering how long I can leave the battery disconnected and it will stay charged. How long are you guys leaving the battery disconnected from your rigs and not on a battery charger?

Thanks.

Steve

I bring mine home (for now I can still lift it) to avoid theft and keep it on a trickle charger so sorry no idea.

I leave my golf cart sit with fully charged batteries and disconnected for several months and they don't discharge.

I was told to top it off once a month, but that a battery tender is best.

x2

Without a load connected to them, you can leave FULLY charged batteries for months without needing to charge them, even in the winter.

A rule of thumb I have read somewhere is they discharge about 0.1 volt per month. If your battery is fully charged to 12.6-12.7 volts then you should be good for at least 6 months. I have left our for 7 months over the winter with no problems. Self discharge is slower when it is colder as well.

Cheers

Here is what Trojan has to say regarding shelf life... not being charged

"1. What is the shelf life of my battery?
The limiting factor of battery’s shelf life is the rate of self-discharge which itself is temperature dependent. VRLA batteries will self-discharge less than 3% per month at 77º F (25º C). Flooded batteries will self-discharge up to 15% per month at 77º F (25º C). VRLA batteries should not be stored for more than 6 months at 77º F (25º C) without recharged. The specific gravity or voltage of flooded batteries should be monitored every 4 – 6 weeks and should be given a boost charge when they are at 70% stat of charge (SOC). When batteries are taken out of long storage, it is recommended to recharge before use."
