IMO it is just plain stupid to rely on the options of sales people. Regardless, of their qualifications, knowledge, etc., people should use their brains and understand basics of towing. This is pretty serious stuff and people should be aware of many limitations, risks, etc. 3/4 or 1 ton truck will not help with stupidness.
Sales people are there to sell trailers, not to advise on the towing capabilities. Unless somebody signs a contract with a dealer for getting the trailer and an advice.

I was at an RV show last year, and I heard a guy ask a salesman if his Ram 1500 could tow this trailer. We were standing inside a trailer I probably wouldn't tow with a 3/4T truck. It was a HEAVY trailer, VERY large. The salesman danced around the question without outright telling him "No". He should've said "No, not this trailer. But I've got a very nice unit over here that might work with that truck."
I stopped him outside and told him it wasn't really any of my business, and I didn't mean to pry or eavesdrop, but that his truck wasn't going to pull anything even CLOSE to that size trailer. He asked a few questions, I gave him some direction on where he should look to research, he was receptive and appreciative. I think as he was walking away, he told his wife perhaps they should be looking at a motor home.

For me the journey is part of the fun of the trip. I may be odd but I actually enjoy towing my TT. I am on vacation and I am in no hurry to get anywhere honestly. I enjoy seeing the other RVs at rest areas and gas stations and I am proud of my humble little set up. I don't understand why anyone would think they need to "speed" when getting to their destination. Slow down and enjoy the ride.

My neighbor just rolled into his driveway last week with a 33' TT being pulled by his Ram 1500. I've seen his cargo sticker, all of the 1300 pounds he has available to him not counting his step bars and tonneau he put on it.
The thing is, he texted me and told me he was at the dealer and I warned him before he got in too deep to take his time and come back home. I would have been happy to lay it all out for him. Of course he didn't.
Now fast forward to coming home with it. His truck must've been a inch or two off the bump stops in the rear, his WDH is torqued up to the last link in the chain, and he hasn't even put a dixie cup in the TT yet.
And to top it ALL off? His salesman told him to put the heavy stuff in the back so as not to overwhelm the truck.
I just listened to him, smiled, and wished him well. He's in a lot of trouble.

33' TT? What length of the trailer has to do with the payload? Please share the relevant trailer specs.

As trailers get longer, they get heavier. As they get heavier, the tongue weight must also increase to keep it stable. 12-15% on the tongue is typical. So, if the 33' TT is 9000 lbs empty, the bare minimum tongue weight is likely 1080- 1350 lbs. And that's with NOTHING in the TT and nothing in the TV. Not to mention that the 1/2 ton pickup GCVW is likely also over the top.

Exactly my point. Only subjective assumptions... Where did you get this 9000 lbs empty? Maybe it is correct, maybe not.
My 28DSBH is almost 33' long. With ProPride it is actually 34' long. TW by spec is 680 lbs. However, I moved the batteries to the back of the trailer (have lithium batteries) and have 2x20lbs cylinders. My TW (trailer empty, but with full lpg tanks) is around 700 lbs, ready to camp (no water - I never tow with water) - 800 lbs.
It is a bit more than 10% on tongue, which is definitely enough (have an empirical proof), at least when you do not go faster than 60 mph (which I don't).

No water, no propane, no cargo, with a tongue weight listed way too light.

If you have problem with reading - no water, with propane, no cargo - TW 700 lbs
no water, with propane, with cargo - TW 800 lbs
I even posted this in another thread with photos.

That is a 28 ft TT, not a 33 ft.

No, 28DSBH is not 28 ft TT. 28 ft is the length of the box only. The length of the box does not matter.

Well, I can't think of one example when length of the box would matter. Camping reservation, storage places, road restrictions - length of the trailer matters, not the box.
