Help with DEAD mattress

Hey folks,

DW and I know it, and our dealer knows it, but Jayco says they have to see photographic proof that the mattress in our 2016 23RLSW is dead after one season. Dealer's service department tells me they need to submit to Jayco a photo showing at least 1.5 inches of "sag" before Jayco will offer warranty coverage on it. (Hey, at least they WILL offer warranty coverage!)

I just tried lying on it for about 15 minutes - did I mention it's *cold* out there - but I think it's gonna take at least a full night on it to be able to get the photographic proof. Any suggestions on how to approach this? Like a pile of strategically-paced cinder blocks for a few days?

I'm not asking for help to cheat or anything, but rather for help in providing photographic proof that it's basically failed.

Thanks!

Roger

To simulate a person, a couple of cinder blocks on a 4' strip of plywood overnight.

Best way to show this, put a long straight edge across the width of bed (like a 6' level) then measure down to the lowest point of deflection with a tape measure and snap your picture.

Note that 1.5" of deflection seems to be the industry warranty standard (mattress industry, not RV) but is probably hard to get in a cheap 4-6" mattress in the average RV. Easier in a 10-12" home mattress.

rkresge,

Why not bring the mattress in the house, let it warm up to room temp and then try again.

I'm guessing that the mattress being cold my be impacting the depression you normally get.

Just a thought - hope this is of some help.

Hmmm... Maybe I should lay it on the ground, put a cover over it, and park my F150 on it overnight using the 4' section of plywood concept.

Even if they do replace it the new one will be just as bad, sorry excuse for a mattress. When I removed my new mattress from the factory plastic bag I noticed the stitching on the mattress cover was sewn very close to the edge and already pulling apart, the first time I laid on it about three feet came apart exposing the cheap construction. I sent pictures to my salesman and asked if he could just get me a refund from Jayco instead of replacing since it was such bad quality. Two weeks later I got a check in the mail and bought a Sealy iComfort memory form mattress.

They gave me 2 options. One was replacement. No thanks. Second was a cash allowance toward a new one of my choice. The second option will be my choice.

I didn't sleep on my 'Denver' mattress once! I laid down on it for about 5 seconds and knew it wouldn't work. I gave it away immediately.
God bless ya for getting a year out of it.. They are JUNK!

Option 2 is the way to go. I wonder how much the allowance is?

For some reason I did not feel it was appropriate to post the amount of the allowance.

I agree, I would not pay $50 for that so called mattress. I was surprised at what was inside, it looked like polyester batting an inch thick, about seven layers, no other support. I tossed it in the garage waiting for trash day, the dog jumped on it and layed down but got up and walked away, guess its not even comfy for a dog.

That's hilarious.. my dog sleeps on concrete and rocks from time to time. Not a good testament to the quality of these mattresses.

I used to sleep on thin camping mats over rocky terrain so I'm actually somewhat happy with our mattress still, but I'm on the lookout for a replacement.

RV mattresses are not made to sleep on. They are just garbage. We never took our new one out of the plastic. First thing we purchased was a Leesa queen size memory foam mattress and are sleeping like we do at home. Several different manufacturers out there now. How much $$ is good sleep worth???

Pretty much what I'm thinking. But I gotta get the money before I can run with it!

Our 2012 Jayco Eagle 320RLDS came with a pillow top mattress that's only somewhat firm and very comfortable. Have things deteriorated that much in the last 4 years?

I can't speak for the last 4 years, but I was certainly not surprised when the mattress in our Jay Feather 23RLSW basically was crushed flat during our first season. It was obviously an inexpensive (ok, make that CHEAP) mattress to begin with, and I knew it going in. In this case, I'd like to replace it with something better, and Jayco has indicated a willingness to offer a cash allowance toward a replacement. In short, I'm not upset - it's a lightweight economy trailer, and I was pretty much expecting this from the beginning. I would expect better in an Eagle!!

Not to be-little y'all but of my two campers I've been pleased with both of their synthetic mattresses (comfort wise).

My first was an 02 Hi-Low, with a King size bed. It provided wonderful comfort for both users.

However my current 08 Jayco (speaking comfort wise), could only be rated the same - IF it was larger. It's supposed to be a queen, but both of us (both short people) think its too small for comfort; I despise its length and the wife thinks its too narrow. Next time I will surely make the overall size an important issue.

YMMV.

Wow! I was expecting something closer to $150.

The views expressed may not be mine in five minutes.
