My DW gets ugly bites from 'no see ums' here in AZ. She had a terrible time until a co-worker had her try 'Iguana Oil'. Yup. Weird name. Not only did that stuff it keep the no see ums away, it also soothed the welts when she did get bit better than diphenhydramine (aka Benadryl) or anything else
They have a Human Iguana Oil Formula and an Equine Formula and, BTW, it's made in Jupiter Florida so they are probably familiar with the bugs there.
Also, I was doing some research regarding mosquitoes for our trip to south TX early next year and ran across this:
Sawyer's Fisherman's Formula Picaridin got top results in {a respected consumer product testing and reporting lab} keeping mosquitoes away for up to eight hours.
Other top performing repellents on the list include:
Ben's 30% DEET Tick & Insect Wilderness Formula
Natrapel 8 Hour, with 20 percent picaridin
Off! Deepwoods VIII, with 25 percent DEET
Repel Lemon Eucalyptus, with 30 percent lemon eucalyptus
Repel Scented Family, with 15 percent DEET
The article advised skipping most repellents made with natural plant oils such as lemongrass or citronella, which were not very effective in their testing.
Unfortunately, I'm guessing you'll find screens are not the answer. With holes small enough to stop the no see ums, you'll severely restrict the air flow through the windows.
I hope you find something that works for you.
